5.0 out of 5 stars Great CPU, great price. 8 Sep 2012

I purchased this i7 3770 to make a new home ESXi 5.0 server to learn and test on. It's amazingly fast. I'm using it with 32GB of RAM and I can have 12 Windows 2008 R2 servers running various things from Exchange to SharePoint to SQL - all on this Core i7 at the same time. The only bottleneck with my setup is the hard-drives...

I've got Windows 7 x64 Ultimate running on the other hard drive in the computer, and it's absolutely lightning fast. All my games run smoothly - though lots of games use the graphics card more than the CPU, but if you don't have a good CPU then you will notice slowdowns. Editing large, 14 megapixel Canon RAW photos in Photoshop is amazingly smooth.

I have tried using the integrated graphics - and it's great for desktop applications on a 1920x1080 monitor, but don't expect it to work well for most modern computer games - you'll definitely want a dedicated graphics card for that.

I'd seriously recommend this CPU if you're looking to do any home virtualization. I chose this plain 3770 over the unlocked 3770K model because the 3770K does NOT support VT-d.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased 13 Jun 2012
By Josh
Put straight into my new first time PC build and I am over the moon with it, very fast and energy efficient. Coupled with a Corsair H80 I have CPU temps as low as 22 Degrees at Idle! However I haven't had the chance to really give it some but I am sure it will cope perfectly, brilliant buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CPU 1 Nov 2012

Used for my first build, great CPU, next one will probably be a 'K' version as I want to be able to over-clock, however this is a fine CPU out of the box and fast enough for almost anything you can throw at it.

Had for 4 months running on Win 7 system with no issues, no complaints.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Lightning 7 July 2012
7/7/2012

One of the top products from THE top manufacturer, so it's hard to go wrong.

I chose this CPU after seeing benchmark ratings (Search "Passmark"). As a result, my PC gets a score of 7.7 (out of 7.9) on the Windows Experience Index, even without overclocking. As often seems to be the case, you get almost identical performance to intel's flagship "K" model but with a good chunk off the price. The value is further improved when you consider the cost of the motherboard, with 1155 socket MBs being much cheaper than 2011 socket format for example (I paired this with an ASUS P8-H77M motherboard (£70), which I would recommend).

Limitation:
If I'm honest with myself, this chip is way more capable than I really needed for a gaming PC. After all, I'm not running numerically intensive vehicle crash simulations etc. If I was to start over, I'd choose an intel i5 CPU (i5-3450S perhaps) and save myself a packet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Power and Effecient...... 4 May 2012
By Dad TOP 500 REVIEWER
- More power efficient (thanks to 22nm and 3D tri-gate transistors)
- Runs cooler than my previous i5-2500k (even with stock cooler- which I plan to replace anyway with a H80 from Corsair)
- Works with my P67 board (with BIOS update)
- 4 cores, 8 threads, and it's the very latest iteration!
- Ultra fast

Installation went smoothly, another happy customer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great performance, couldn't yet stress it enough
The only issue I have with this CPU is the integrated video, I didn't need it but intel don't have cheaper option w/o it.
Still it's worth the money!
