5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful book for aspiring hypnotherapists 18 Dec 2011
By Laura De Giorgio TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
The book Integrative Hypnosis is written as a transcript from a workshop. Perhaps about 80% of this book consists of NLP techniques, so if you have attended NLP training, they will not be new to you. However, since NLP is generally thought through NLP workshops, and most hypnosis courses teach only classical hypnosis techniques, if you've only learned classical hypnosis, then this book will open a new world for you.

Some of the NLP techniques covered in this book are calibration, eye accessing cues, submodalities, pacing, leading, anchoring, stacking anchors, collapsing anchors, swish, time-lines, few hypnotic language patterns and meta model, backward spin, reframing, future pacing, and of course an overview of NLP presuppositions.

Even NLP training programs tend to teach you just techniques, not necessarily offer suggestions for different situations where you may use them. The author of this book, Melissa, on the other hand, shares with you varieties of techniques she picked up, from hypnosis, NLP, EFT and few other places and then opens you up to brainstorm the possibilities of techniques you may use to help a client to stop smoking, lose weight, manage pain, engage the body to heal itself, deliver a child, explore past lives, transform emotions like anger and fear, even explore spiritual questions like "who am I?"

You'll also learn different ways of inducing trance in Ericksonian hypnosis, including arm catalepsy, handshake induction, hand drop induction, a review of an induction from Bandler's book Trance-formations, as well as the fact that sometimes you don't need to use any formal induction because simply directing the client's attention to a subjective experience, will guide the client into a trance.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have in your library. 10 Jun 2010
By Desi Edwards,CH - Published on
I wish this book was available when I first started doing my research on hypnosis. Up to date I have read a lot of literature on this subject and that is the first book so far that gives a good and satisfying, easy to understand definition on Hypnosis. What is more- it presents the practitioner with different ways on how to relay the experience of trance to their clients.

In the book you can find a step by step manuals for dealing with addictions, cravings, phobias..., pretty much any other issue/problem that the client can bring to you. It is presenting the reader with more than few different approaches to solving a particular issue. And within the given structure there is plenty of room left for adding some steps of your own and personalizing it so it fits your own style.

Wonderful use of natural occurring trance states in the reader, where a lot of the information goes straight to the unconscious. It is the perfect learning tool for hypnotist and NLP practitioners - experienced and novice.
What a great book! A must have in your library.

3.0 out of 5 stars content good, but format is terrible for my learning style 25 Nov 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I've been a physician (M. D.) for 45 years, used hypnosis for 35 years, and believe it is impossible to learn too much. The description, and the reviews, seduced me into buying this book. I've had my nose in it for two days, and I've found some really good information so far, BUT the style of transcription from an interactive presentation drives me nuts. I need information presented, demonstrated, and then (for skills) supervised. The tone of many chapters reminds me of the mindless dialogs on some morning news shows, jabbering rather than a formatted information presentation. CLEARLY this is a very knowledgeable author, who obviously understands the various techniques for dealing with re-programming the subconscious (not just formal hypnosis, but subtle "waking" hypnosis, NLP. etc.) I suspect if this was a DVD recording of the actual presentation I might have found it easier to follow and learn from it. But I wish she had organized her thoughts and written a book rather than transcribe the presentation. The author in her introduction says"some of my favorite books are written this way" (transcribed from a presentation) BUT she then adds "keeping in mind how much gets lost in the transition to text. . ". If you're plush on funds and want to add a little to your knowledge, the book may be a good buy. If you learn best by reading about people interacting, then perhaps it is for you. If, like me, you need an organized presentation with measurable objectives then I would suggest you look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow 7 Nov 2010

I dont know if my earlier review was posted - but to be sure, i'll post my review again.

This book is basically the best book ive read in the field of hypnosis. It essentially provides multiple pieces of framework for the hypnotherapist to basically tackle any condition or issue that a client comes in with. I just wish i had of come across Melissa's training sooner.I love the fact that there's no fluff - most seminars and books for that matter end up being largely fluff talk and endless success story dribble with little to no substance. This book is full of practical advice that can be applied pretty easily and effectively. I've never written a review before and thats a testament to this book.

If you basically want to expand your hypnotist toolbox 10 or so times, buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invitation to Play 5 Jun 2010
By Mark Simmons - Published on
From the first page Integrative Hypnosis brings you to the party you always wanted to join but never were invited, included or notified. Demystifying the technicalities and rules of Hypnosis and NLP, the author immediately immerses you in in enough new experiences, perspectives, metaphors and communications tools to achieve the trances, altered states and new vantage points where change, healing and transformation occur. The book's beauty is that Integrative Hypnosis is really about states of relationship, rapore and acceptence, both internal and external. These bring resource, healing, meaning and love. So besides providing the most useful, practical, and natural interventions to your door, by the time you finish playing with this book you will have forever changed, and grown. The inductions, contexts, metaphors and communication tools the author teaches seemlessly capture the spirit and intent behind her work, which is to include you in this dance of consciousness, nature and healing. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Experience her NOW 29 Jan 2011
By Anthony J Tranguch MD PhD - Published on
As a Columbia-trained psychiatrist, I thought I knew a thing or two about therapy. Five years ago, I had my first training in hypnosis with Melissa Tiers, and she immediately began to blow my mind with her challenging perspectives, attuned teaching, and powerful hypnotic skills. Her influence has transformed the way I practice psychiatry, and many of my patients have been the direct benefactors. Hypnosis, NLP, and EFT have become some of the most powerful modalities in my clinical toolbox, and very few clinicians come close to Melissa's versatility in utilizing and teaching these skills. Her book is a faithful, you-are-there rendering of her trainings, complete with the charm, wit, and playfulness that Melissa infuses into her work. She remains one of the most talented, creative, and generous human beings I've ever encountered, and this book is a gift that I'm sure you and your clients will benefit from. And now, you can take a deep breath, relax into a smile, notice how the pages turn effortlessly, as you absorb the wisdom of an expert teacher...
