I have never subscribed to the 'Macs are safe' view, because it is inevitable that if someone is malicious they will write a virus for any format and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I spend a lot of time on the internet, so security is top priority so I searched the net for reviews on Mac security software and this won hands down, it seemed good value for what it offered so I bought it.
I haven't been disappointed, X6 Security Barrier offers everything you could possibly need/want for security and antivirus on a Mac, including automatic quarantine function. Previously, I used Norton, which did a great job in antivirus and privacy terms, but the usual complaint,it slowed my Mac to a snail's [PC ;)] pace, every update file was huge and annoyingly obtrusive, plus the firewall was a nightmare. I notice a previous review said this product blocked Apple tv, well Norton blocked everything Apple, including all my internal files, to such an extent I had to shorten my password as I was typing it in so often!
In some ways it's early days, as I've only been using it a week, but as I said, I'm a heavy user, and unlike Norton, I find the updates unobtrusive, my Mac is working better and faster, with none of the problems previously mentioned. X6 has antivirus,antispam, antispyware, adblocking, antiphishing, it blocks suspicious websites and protects required data, as well as parental controls, which I don't need, so I can't comment on that.
Why only 4 stars? Firstly, the safety features are not automatic, you have to go through each function and turn it on, which for me seems strange, because if I didn't want those functions I wouldn't have bought the product! Ok I don't use parental control, but surely it's easier to turn one off than everything on? Also because it lacks a manual, the less computer literate may struggle to realise these issues. A small point; if you're an environmentalist, you'll be shocked at the amount of packaging for nothing more than a disk! If they're not going to supply a manual, why not offer a cheaper download like Norton?
Overall though, this product offers a lot for the money. If you have a Mac, and use the net, get it. If you don't think you need all the features then they do an antivirus.Intego VirusBarrier X6 - 2 Machines (Mac)

I've previously used Norton Internet Security for Mac, but had lots of problems when I upgraded MacOS with numerous warnings, failures to update despite having valid subscription and when I eventually decided to uninstall it had a complete nightmare in trying to get rid of it. The Intego X6 package was recommended by a relative who's a qualified Mac engineer and I'm never going back! Comprehensive cover and easy to use, but works unobtrusively. The spam filter is a bit oversensitive and I found it unnecessary as my ISP already does a good job in filtering out unwanted emails, but easily configured to turn off the settings you don't want on X6.

I trialled the basic version of this product: Intego VirusBarrier X6 - 2 Machines (Mac) and ended up buying the product that this review is for, which includes VirusBarrier X6. The reason I "upgraded" to Internet Security Barrier was that it had a few extra functions: AntiSpam & FileGuard. The latter allows you to hide any secret files you have from prying eyes and will even make them invisible to others.
The AntiVirus part of it is vary good indeed and I have had no proplems whatsoever with it. It also has a Firewall with it that you can run at the same time as the default Mac Firewall.
A vary good product with which I can find no fault.
Intego support is vary good with vary quick replies to any support issues raised.
Somebody complained that if you wanted to renew a multi-person licence, you had to phone their offices in France. I was given a number in the UK for the purpose of payment.
The AntiVirus part of it is vary good indeed and I have had no proplems whatsoever with it. It also has a Firewall with it that you can run at the same time as the default Mac Firewall.
A vary good product with which I can find no fault.

Good, but....
Does what it says, but the firewall can be a bit over zealous. Mine blocked the Apple TV on the network so it would no longer sync with itunes, which is the whole point!
