The original Divergent was a pleasant surprise and a decent original sci-fi based on books (that I have not read) The sequel Insurgent was very good too, It certainly isn't your cash in sequel, it genuinely continues the story over in a good way, still keeping interest in the characters and digging a little deeper into what divergents are really capable of and how the future looks for their kind, the cast is good as before, Shailene Woodley has got bigger boots to fill now with her character Tris and takes her further with her skills, Kate Winslet stars once again for her first ever sequel continuing her harsh pursuit of finding and destroying anyone in her personal path of power, plus the rest of the young and old star cast is good, there is certainly just as much action in this sequel as was in he original, good visual effects, certainly check this out if you liked the original, if you haven't seen these movies yet I recommend them as they are original and easy to get into and have strong characters and are just good easy entertainment.
The ending to Insurgent was huge and much was tied up and revealed at the same time so It will certainly be interesting to see where this series goes next.

My teenage son wrote off "Divergent" as a "Hunger Games" rip off, but I thoroughly enjoyed it empathising with the leading Divergent Tris. I wasn't expecting much from the sequel,"Insurgent", but I was pleasantly surprised. It's pretty good. The story continues with Tris and her boyfriend hiding out among various non Erudite factions and the Factionless, but they are relentlessly pursued by Janine's Erudite henchmen as Tris is needed by them to help open up a mysterious box containing an important message from the City's founders, which Janine hopes will entrench her power base. There is plenty of excitement and suspense, good acting and impressive special effects in this absorbing film which builds to a thrilling climax. I found "Insurgent" to be a much better film than the recent "Mockingjay Part One", but I don't think that will make my son change his mind. Not sure whether I'd be a Divergent or Factionless in this dystopian society.

I've read the books and thought the second book was kinda boring but this film was really good and in my opinion better than the first. Yes some bits are different but its ats bound to be and it doesn't bother me as i see books as books and films as adaptations (not entirely the same). The film had a lot of action which was great and the ending was awesome (even though i new what was going to happen) at the end it kinda seperates itself from other Young adult movies i.e. the Hunger games which is great. All in all a good movie and i would rate it definitly 10/10.. bring in Allegiant!

Went to see this in the cinema yesterday (19th March 2015) after catching the first movie on Blu-ray. Loved it. Good story, lots and lots of action and a good progression of the story. A lot like the hunger games, you will be left waiting for the next one with the open but very interesting and satisfying ending.

Great adaptation of the book, even with the whole 'box' plot added in; it didn't make much difference to the actual storyline.

The film opens with a narration to give you the basic outline of society and the issue in case you are like me and confuse all these films that are a year between releases. I am glad they did this or else I would have been looking for a vampire with handcuffs and a bow running through a maze. Tris (Shailene Woodley) is a "deadly divergent" and is wanted by Jeanine, (Kate Winslet) the ruler, so she can open a "Hell Raiser" looking puzzle box. Theo James "Don't call me Tobias" is her love interest. Miles Teller as Peter had the best role which allowed him to do some acting.

I loved Shailene Woodley in "White Bird in a Blizzard" but in this film, I really couldn't get into her character. In fact nearly all the characters were cardboard exhibiting mediocre writing that goes along with "go with happiness." The main plot drags a lot and if not for the special effects of the SIM world the movie would fall flat. Oscar winner Octavia Spencer has a small role and doesn't get to strut her stuff.

And what was that scene where they hop the train? They are actually running FASTER than the train when they jump on it. Seriously? And then the train speeds away once they get on so their antagonist can't catch up to it even though they were just along side of it.

This is another fun teen fantasy film, not to be taken seriously even with $110 million US dollar budget.

Guide: One mouthed F-bomb near end. Implied sex. Side breast? I liked the film in spite of its short comings.

I'm not a film critic so all I'll say is: It was a good 3D film at the cinema with a good story and more than a few action scenes and "it's a long way down" moments, I just hope it will be released in 3D blu-ray.
