Product Description

This book provides architects, structural design engineers, and contractors with the information they need to design and build homes using concrete-based stay-in-place (SIP) forming systems, the most requested new material in homebuilding today. SIP forming systems offer the benefits of reduced labor costs, less on-site waste, strength, durability, and built-in energy efficiency. Endorsed by the Portland Cement Association, this heavily illustrated manual describes the latest methods used by the most experienced SIP professionals in the U.S. The authors lead readers through every aspect of SIP design and construction, explaining how each method affects cost efficiency and final product quality.

From the Back Cover

Discover the vast potential of insulating concrete forms (ICFs) for the homebuilding market. Ideal for today's housing requirements, insulating concrete froms (ICFs) are hollow units made of plastic foam, assembled into the shape of a building's exterior, and filled with reinforced concrete to create structural walls. This step-by-step guide will introduce you to the many advantages of ICFs such as energy efficiency, design flexibility, strength, durability, and ease of construction and show you how to design and construct houses out of them. Featuring an eight-page color insert, the book covers: components including ICF systems and their parts and materials, including the various types of foams and their properties; design presenting information on detailing issues, system selection, the building envelope, attachments, and cost estimation; engineering offering guidance on structural performance and design, energy efficiency and HVAC, and future developments; assembly explaining the construction sequence for formwork, concrete, and key components. Whether you're an architect, engineer, or contractor, this great productivity tool will enable you to capitalize on ICFs in your homebuilding projects!

The compilation of comprehensive approaches to ICFs. 3 April 2001
By Keir Darcey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
...I was pleasantly surprised that it was an informative text that addressed important points in construction with Interlocking Concrete Forms. While geared towards construction and engineering veiw points, it does answer many questions understandable for a do-it-your-selfer. Very informative and recommended.
