It must have been in 1977, when "Instructions For Angels" was released that I heard it reviewed on Kaleidoscope on Radio 4. Although the actual music faded quickly my interest in this album has been in the back of my mind for 23 years! So with the wonders of Amazon.co.uk I typed the title that I had remembered from all those years ago and came up with this album, not being certain that I had found the same album but at Amazon's competitive price I ordered anyway.
A few days later "Instructions For Angels" was handed to me by my postman. Yes it was the album I remembered from 1977.
Recording techniques have improved so much since 1977 but "Instructions" brings back memories of tubular bells and the 70's. I doubt many copies of this album were ever sold and I have certainly never found it when idly looking in record shops.
If you like the work of Mike Oldfield, if you like modern versions of medieval tunes, if you like organ music used as a backing for electronic instruments, basically if you're formative years were in the 1970's then give this one a go. It actually grown on you and memories of those orchestral rock days of the 1970's come flooding back.
