Funny satire on corporare life,

A very funny satire on global business, it hits all the right spots with great attention to modern business speak. Every corporate employee would recognise the characters from their own place of work and the amusing story line and on going sagas make for an easy read. Institutionalized will appeal to anyone who has ever worked in a large business. It is the kind of book you would pass on to similar minded friends to enjoy, as I have done.

VERY FUNNY,

A highly irreverant and extremely perceptive swipe at corporate business life. This book is a very funny story about an unstable CEO with a board of lunatics. No-one seems to know what is happening in the business as they vie for favour with the CEO and focus on 101 fashionable re-engineering and other projects while the business lurches from crisis to crisis. It manages to take a dig at just about every business icon and paradigm you can think of while the one sensible character (Lance) struggles to cut through the corporate BS and actually get a few things done. Well written, funny, perceptive and also provocative: you might think this is a little too like parts of your business... so what are you doing about it?

My book group reviewed this book, although very few of us managed to get through the whole thing. Several people found it too hard a slog to finish. I think 3 stars is a bit generous, but two stars a bit harsh. I'd give it 2.5 if I could.
While we liked the concept, the biggest problems were the poor writing and, perhaps more importantly, the sloppy editing. The plot line often got lost in unnecessary dialogue, and many characters were hard to relate to. Although it was clearly a parody of corporate America, it often pushed the concept too far - a good example is the conclusion of the 'big boss' storyline, which had a very unconvincing conclusion, as one book-group member commented. Much of it was funny, though, (even more so if you're familiar with the business world, I suspect), and overall it wasn't a bad read. It didn't live up to its potential, but I think some readers will still get a good laugh from it, if they can stick with it to the end.
