Product Description

You probably don’t realise it but there’s more than one set of muscles to your abs and many more ways of working them than spending hours doing punishing crunches in the gym. The rectus abdominis is your potential six-pack and the muscle most people are thinking of when they talk about abs, but your abs are made up of three sets of muscles. As well as the rectus abdominis there are the obliques in your side, which come into play when twisting and bending, and the transversus abdominis, which goes all the way across your stomach, behind the rectus abdominis. For maximum toning you need to work all three muscles individually and together rather than just focusing on the easily worked and dominant rectus abdominis. The good news is that there are plenty of exercises you can do without even needing to go to the gym so your workout can be varied and interesting rather than the gruelling tedium of endless crunches. Here’s to flatter stomachs!

Seems good on the initial read through, but 9 Jan 2012

The initial read through reveals a **lot** of different exercises and techniques to work different groups of abdominal muscles both separately and in tandem. As a person who is woefully out of shape, I found it helpful that there are several sections right at the beginning to help you get started if you're not a regular gym goer and thus not up to the more advanced exercises. I've tried several of the middling exercises and I can feel the workout in my tummy already, particularly on the left side where I'm not as strong.

The only problem I had with this title at all is that approximately half of the exercises call for a Swiss exercise ball (though many of these exercises are delightfully named), and as a person new to working out, I want to set up a routine before I go out to spend money on it. Note that Swiss exercise balls are not expensive, however (here on Amazon they range from about $11-$40); I'm just cheap.

All in all I think this will be a very useful addition to my fledgling workout routine, with or without the exercise ball.

I really like having this as an easy download to the kindle. It makes it very portable and easy to use. I am happy with this product and even more happy that I got it for free!
Really needs illustrations 2 May 2012

With at least 50 abs exercises, this should be a good resource, but would benefit greatly from illustration of the exercises. Some of them are complex enough that if you missed a step you might find yourself tied up like a pretzel, which isn't the best outcome.

Kneel on the floor in front of your ball and lean forward very slightly to rest your forearms on the ball with your hands together. Now, keeping your abs tight, gently roll the ball forward until your arms are straight. Hold the position for a moment and then roll back to the starting position. Repeat. The body position should feel comfortable but you should find the exercise works your stomach muscles surprisingly hard. "e;
