5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Comedy. 26 Aug 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
"Third Window" are hit and miss with their Japanese title releases. Some are very good, while others are not.
This is definitely one of the better Japanese comedies they have released on dvd.
It is a fun colourful comedy. Only the type of unique madcap comedy that Japan could make.
The characters are good and is the storyline. It keeps you interested throughout.
Haname as a child threw away her "Neko" lucky cat into a nearby swamp when her father left to remarry a wealthy woman.
Since then she feels everything has gone wrong for her. In searching to regain the lucky cat she meets her old hippie swindler real father and a young punk rocker called Gus who she becomes good friends with.
It`s a entertaining movie. Recommended.
If you like "Kamikaze Girls", "Funuke show some love you losers", "Turtles are surprisingly good swimmers" and "Fine totally fine" then you should enjoy this too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A review of Instant Swamp 16 Jun 2010
Format:DVD
Instant Swamp is about Kumiko Asos Haname a journalist in Japan. She is completely different to everyone around her. She is too normal for her mother and she is too weird for her work. And cursed with bad luck since the age of eight, when she threw away a cat talisman. Kumiko tries to improve her life when she finds out who her real father is by helping him in his antique shop.

I must say that say that for me I really enjoyed the film and "Third window films" can do no wrong in the films they sell. I found part very funny especially the part when she is in an all white antique shop with her best friend. I also liked the on off relation between Kumiko and the punk rocker Gus. I must admit that some of the Japanese humour is wasted on me. But if you can't think to watch next I would definitely buy this film.

The film is directed by the same director of "Turtles are Surprisingly Fast Swimmers" so if you like that film I guarantee you will love this film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beware! There's a dragon in your swamp! 20 July 2010
Format:DVD
The film starts off very promising with that fast but great opening scene which is some kind of mini biography of the lead character Haname. Then we are introduced to her daily routine of work for the magazine she's assigned to. That sometimes becomes a little bit boring but hold on, your patience will soon be rewarded with the appearance of Light Bulb(who might be Haname's long-lost dad). This guy's a real joker and responsible for a lot of fun later happening in Haname's life. Some unforgettabe example of that would be the scene where he wants to challenge himself by eating a meal in a restaurant fast enough to be back at home in time to close the water supply of his bathtub before it's running over. Simply hilarious, but my favorite part of the movie is the infamous King - Tut - Fortune - Telling - Machine. What a nice concept: the machine that looks like a egyptian pharao would ask you for your birthday and gender, and prints you in return the picture of your soon to be loved one.

But then it gets a little bit weird... Light Bulb is leaving and sells Haname his greatest treasure (for 1 Million Yen!): 5 tons of sand!
She takes it home and waters it and it turns out to be...drum roll please...a instant swamp! Then suddenly a dragon comes out of it flying straight to heaven.

All in all a very good film and worth your time because of the Pharao Machine alone! 3.5 Stars.
