Review

'The large-scale work is inspirational and the 112 page book is informative.'
--karenplatt.co.uk (June 2009)

Product Description

In this book, Alexia Tala explores and investigates the new experimental forms of printmaking, which are today pushing the traditional boundaries of this technique in contemporary art. These include the usage of photo-emulsion, glass and paper, Perspex and paint stripper, printing with sand and digital prints mounted on relief surfaces. This volume also considers the role of the moving image, encaustic (wax) techniques for printing, transferring, collaging and combining traditional prints with wax. In addition to an evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of these individual approaches, the author also offers an insight into the experiences and concerns of contemporary artists displaying experimental printmaking objects and installations for exhibition. Work of over 30 British and International artists are illustrated giving the reader practical examples and inspiration to explore for themselves the experimental aspects of printmaking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have book, 3 Nov 2011
This review is from: Installations and Experimental Printmaking (Printmaking Handbooks) (Paperback)
This book is different in that it really is a 'must have' book for the artist and printer who is looking for something more exciting than traditional techniques. It features various artist's work, as well as the author's using a wide range of printing strategies. Not for the beginner, however, as it uses complex methods not easily done without specialist materials or processes. I found it inspiring and will use this as an ideas book to inspire my own practice. What is really the best thing about it for me is the experimentation of the artists and the brief list of 'how to's ' incorporated with the artist's profile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Little Book, 9 July 2011

This review is from: Installations and Experimental Printmaking (Printmaking Handbooks) (Paperback)
This is a fabulous little book that is brilliant to have a flick through if you are stuck for ideas. Printmaking is a wonderful traditional way of working but its continuously being used in a more contemporary way. This book is an excellent display of some artists who do this and do it well, i reccommend it highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great ideas for printmaking and installations, 12 Aug 2010
By Dianne Erickson - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Installations and Experimental Printmaking (Printmaking Handbooks) (Paperback)
This book was recommended by a friend, and so I bought it. It has some unusual uses for printmaking, taking it from 2 to 3-D objects. The photos are in color and the overall quality of the book is good. The ideas are there so you can be inspired to expand your art. However, the text is sometimes short on explaining the techniques, you'll have to experiment a bit. But I love the book, it has inspired me to move beyond the usual.

This is a very well written and informative book. Although it is a rather small handbook, it has some good documentation of amazing installations. I use it for reference and inspiration. Who said printmaking is a thing of the past? It is alive and changing in fascinating ways!
