This book encapsulates Jonathan's magnetism and inspiration. It is his life story and what has shaped the leadership values and principles he clearly displays and develops in others. I particularly enjoyed the realness of the narrative, the constructive influence of army experiences applied to the business world and the structure and theory surrounding the compass model. There is some real learning in the book and you are left with a warm, feel-good factor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Personal, compelling, inspirational! 8 Dec 2011
By Barnaby
In my experience, it is rare to read a book where the author gives so much of themselves with the aim of improving others. This is a warm, heartfelt and compelling read where autobiographical experiences and real life case studies combine to create a "can't put down" read. The practicality and narrative of Inspiring Leadership combine to energise you and propel you to take action and see immediate results - Outstanding!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring lessons from an inspiring leader 15 Nov 2011
The hard learned lessons of this book were brought to vivid reality when I was lucky enough to experience Jonathan's leadership coaching for myself. The framework presented in the book also offers a systematic model for reviewing your personal impact as a leader on the world around you and for exploring the assumptions that might be limiting your impact. When combined with Jonathan's insightful coaching, you can discover limiting beliefs about yourself and the world that you did not even suspect existed. Once removed, with Jonathan's guidance and support, first my outlook transformed and then the opportunities for putting the lessons to good use just rushed in.

Inspiring LEADERSHIP-Jonathan Perks MBE
This book is built around the authors own personal journey through life. A very successful life in terms of personal achievement and success. This is not a `rags to riches' story, this is a success story built around strong values, beliefs and hard work, in fact blood sweat and tears might be a better description. At the start it sets out a clear structure of where this journey is going with a `compass' with eight beadings or guiding principles by which his life is lived. The title suggests it is about Leadership, the content (for me) is far more, and it is indeed leadership plus life skills plus a roadmap for coaching. It starts pretty much with the authors `career' in the British Army and takes us on a journey of experiences, lessons, learning from the wise and from the mistakes of the not so wise and its transition's from the army to a very successful entrepreneur in the Senior executive coaching business. It contrasts the need for strong leadership in the traditional senses of being tough and having the ability to make decisive decisions under extreme pressure to having the `softer' skills of emotional intelligences, actions and decisions based on values and beliefs coupled with compassion. It ends each section with questions for the reader to consider for them selves which are a valuable guide for us soon to be coaches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Leader 8 Dec 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It has been my pleasure and benefit to not only read this book but also to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from Jonathan Perks over the past year.

His inspiring personal career experience combined with a depth of reading, learning, network of colleagues, clients and contemporaries provide a richness of capability and ideas that I have found enormously beneficial in helping me navigate my own challenging career and life.

I would commend this book and its author to any others who are likewise challenged by business and life and need a resource that can help them explore and realise their potential in an individual and enlightening way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A watershed moment 10 Mar 2013
This book is a must read for anybody craving to become a better leader! I have had the privilege of not only using this book as a guide but having Jonathan as my own trusted advisor in leadership. In the book Jonathan recounts many of his own personal stories that have shaped his inspirational leadership vision also using excellent examples of leaders he has worked with who have benefited from spending time with Jonathan.

Personally the structure that Jonathan has put into his thinking on inspirational leadership has been compelling enough for me to entirely re-evaluate my perception of how to inspire my team and the others that surround me. I know that I am already a much better and balanced leader as a consequence of this book and working with Jonathan.

Even if you think you are already inspiring your team you will benefit from this genuinely thought provoking book.
