Book Description

10 April 2014
'Garden centres and flower shops are two of my favourite places in the world - I feel calm the moment I walk in. The scent of the flowers, the greenery, the wholesome wooden tools, the exotic orchids...Throw an antique shop into the mix and I'm in decorating heaven.' Willow Crossley. In Inspire: The Art of Living with Nature, Willow combines these passions and shows how to use both flower-shop purchases, beachcombing bounty, home-grown harvests and hedgerow finds foraged on countryside walks to decorate your home. Divided into five chapters on Woodland, Flora, Fauna, Edibles and Beach, here are more than 50 ideas ranging from hellebores displayed in test tubes to a wreath made from hydrangeas, spring narcissi planted in wooden wine boxes, a tabletop display incorporating apples and pears, displays of pebbles, coral and shells, sea urchins fashioned into napkin rings, hollowed-out red cabbages used as vases, a colourful posy of chillies and a stylish wall display of antlers and feathers.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL INSPIRATION FROM WILLOW CROSSLEY 6 April 2014
By KCW
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is an inspiring, beautiful book. Full of original , manageable ideas for your interiors . It's a great read with exquisite
imaginative photos of Willow's projects that bring the outside into your house. Not just a coffee table book at all - although it
is very decorative as an object in itself with its original binding and embossed cover. LOVE IT!

The author claims this book is "eco-chic", and then she promotes the use of coral and in particular Sea Fan corals as decorations.

Corals are important for the continuing health of our oceans and should not be imported as fripperies, no matter how pretty they are. Corals are living entities not bits of rock. A Sea fan like the one on page 118 must have been ripped from the sea bed, as they are so very fragile they never wash up on the shore.

Quote from HM Revenue & Customs website on imports to the UK

"Souvenirs made from endangered species

Some souvenirs can be made from endangered plants or animals. Endangered species include:
•plants - such as orchids, cacti, mahogany and ramin trees
•animals - such as elephants, rhinos, whales, turtles, coral and many reptiles

Endangered species are protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). If you buy a souvenir made from one of these products, you may not be allowed to bring it in to the UK and could even face prosecution, or you may need to obtain a permit."

The author is promoting the collection and destruction of these endangered species to decorate our homes, don't encourage this, don't buy this book.

I bought this book for my mom because she loves to decorate with natural, found objects, and she (and I) found the book to be beautiful, clever and inspiring. Great photographs. The writer seems like a lovely person. Fully recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely and quite original 15 April 2014

Amazing how a book with no binding could be so beautiful, a perfect marrieage between the editor and a sensible author as Crossley is. An extraordinary idea that no binding let us open the book completely plus the fact that it make the book look as it was made by an artisian (hand made). Cosy ideas with plenty of good taste and flowers two that i love.
