Product Description

Product Description

Four short stories featuring detective Inspector Zhang from Singapore. They are all locked room mysteries to test the detective's deductive powers to the full - Inspector Zhang and the Perfect Alibi, Inspector Zhang and the Falling Woman, Inspector Zhang and the Dead Thai Gangster, and Inspector Zhang and the Disappearing Drugs.

Assisted by the inexperienced Sergeant Lee, the inspector solves brain-teasing mysteries in the style of Sherlock Holmes and Poirot but with a modern twist. See if you can solve the crimes before the inspector - the clues are there!

Stephen Leather is one of the UK's most successful thriller writers and is published in more than twenty languages. He was a journalist for more than ten years on newspapers such as The Times, the Daily Mail and the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. He began writing full time in 1992. His bestsellers have been translated into more than ten languages. 5.0 out of 5 stars Good and funny reading..! 18 Dec 2012
The inspector Zang short stories may not be, what we are used from Stephen Leather, but nevertheless, very good reading. It really shows, what a great author Stephen is, trying new and different things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun 9 Nov 2012
Well, I must be honest, I didn't buy this boxed set.....I bought all these stories individually as they came out, so it looks like I lost out on the box.

They are short "locked room" mysteries, and pretty good ones too. As usual with this genre, you have to suspend your disbelief for twenty minutes, but then have you ever REALLY heard of any murderers going to all the trouble that Conan Doyle and Christie made them undertake? The puzzle is the thing.

Inspector Zhang is an engaging character in the old-school detective mould, who appears delighted to encounter some "impossible" crimes. Mr Leather writes knowledgeably about the Singapore setting, as you would expect from one who has spent many years in the Far East.

So, probably the Booker prize judges won't be interested, but the set is good value and, as it says in the title....great fun.
