The Inspector Lynley Mysteries is a series based on novels by the American author Elizabeth George, but plots and characters are often significantly altered.
The two main characters are as different as the moon and the sun: Detective Inspector Thomas "Tommy" Lynley is 8th Earl of Asherton and Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers is a working class girl. Nathaniel Parker portraits with his handsome guards look to perfection the aristrocrat, while Sharon Small is equally perfect in her role.
Besides the mysteries the clashes of personality, gender and class, but as well the perosnal drama of Linley ( his relationship with Lady Helen) and Havers ( the dementia of her mother) add to the story and the depth of the whole. It is pleasure to watch and see how these two very different personalities become a team and repect develops for the other personalities, not for their background. The mystries are sutle, not US kind of type... all in the great tradition of British mysteries.

In the Presence of the Enemy
A Suitable Vengeance
Deception on His Mind
My favorite is "The Suitable Vengence" as is about the family of Lynley... all the unhappiness a stately home can hold...

Format:DVD
Having watched series 2 I cannot but contradict the reviewer above. Both picture and tone quality are up to the normally high standard. There are some passages in episode 3 where voices are subdued, but easily understandable! The episodes themselves are no letdown to series 1; the chemistry between the leading characters Lynley and Havers is developing in a convincing way, the plots are complex and incorporate a great deal of (varied) local colour.
All in all I would thoroughly recommend this set, and am personally looking forward to purchasing subsequent series.

It's a terrible shame that they have stopped making Inspector Lynley mysteries because they are SUPERB! As usual the series looks great, the acting is great and the story telling is first class. I would recommend all of these - from Series 1 - 6. You wont be disappointed.Fantastic delivery and service from Amazon as usual!

Inspector Lynley Mysteries.
Series 2 from the Inspector Lynley Mysteries. Very enjoyable and builds on what happened in Series 1. Strong acting, scripts and storylines. Well worth watching and enjoying.

The quality of these DVD's is apalling. I have bought series one to four. Some of the episodes in one and two were corrupted and so I couldn't watch the ending. Read more
