Product Description

This four disc set features all four episodes that make up the acclaimed and award nominated second series of George Gently Martin Shaw returns to 1960s Northumberland as Inspector George Gently in four feature length films. The series throws Chief Inspector Gently into a maelstrom of murders and mayhem, whilst lovingly recreating the swinging sixties as it finally hits the North-East, in perfect and nostalgic detail. Chief Inspector George Gently is the classic unsung hero of detective fiction and in Martin Shaw s expert hands he becomes a passionate, growling, ex-army boxer. With his sidekick, the ambitious and undisciplined Detective Sergeant John Bacchus, they make the perfect police partnership, full of warmth and humour. But even the closest partners can come to blows when Gently and Bacchus enter the boxing ring, to raise monies for the police widow s fund but who will be knocked out for the count of ten?

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER great British Detective Drama 6 Oct 2010
We seem to be spoilt for choice at the moment when it comes to British Detective Dramas. George Gently is up there at the top, and unique in so much that it manages to turn back time with great authenticity. Superb acting, stunning evocative locations and cinematography all come together seamlessly to create the sixties spirit

4.0 out of 5 stars GENTLY IS VERY GOOD. 15 Sep 2011
Back to the 60's we go again for series 2 of George Gently,Martin Shaw and Lee Ingleby are very good as Gently and Sgt.Bacchus his partner.Four 85 minute movies start off with Gently with the Innocent,a murder at and old childrens home no one wants to talk about, nice twists and turns.Gently in the Night is about a woman found dead in a church who worked at a hostess club with lots of hanky panky going on but Gently and Bacchus think more there than meets the eye.good story.Gently in the Blood a case about a mixed race baby found with it's mother a civil servant with some crime connections.Gently through the Mill a mill boss is found hanged, was it suicide or murder, money was found missing from the safe so Gently is on the case. The first two were my favorites from this set but very good for fans of this type show and Martin Shaw fans too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Actors that can act 9 Nov 2010
It is always a pleasure to see people that you know from other roles take on a character and convince you that they are that character especially when you loved them as someone else. I am beginning to get to know who George Gently is and to like him.
Obviously one partly buys things because you like the actor, but there is a danger that it can be same old same old. Not with Inspector George Gently. Martin Shaw plays the character with thought and intelligence. Lee Ingleby seems to be learning how to be a better detective and a better actor from Martin with every episode and the writing skills of Alan Hunter are exceptional.
The series seems to get better as time goes on and I hope it continues for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Martin or Lee!
The only problem with this series is that I don't know who I'm more in love with, Martin Shaw or Lee Ingleby. Unique and compelling drama that never lets you down - a joy.
