From Amazon.co.uk

Inspector Gadget 2 sees the unlikely detective with higher-tech gadgets and more special effects. French Stewart (from TV's Third Rock from the Sun) replaces Matthew Broderick as the bumbling detective in a plot that revolves around the glitch-ridden Gadget being replaced by a completely robotised female. Parent Trap's Elaine Hendrix does what little she can with the one-dimensional role of "G2". Still, Gadget falls for his rival and the pair team up with his smart-as-a-whip niece Penny and her brainy beagle for a showdown with Claw.

Where Broderick struggled to humanise the caricature of an inept detective in the 1999 original, Stewart doesn't even try. Instead he plays Gadget as a cartoon with endless over-the-top theatrics. The enhanced special effects may placate young viewers, but without the comedy of the original, that's small comfort. --Kimberly Heinrichs

4.0 out of 5 stars Mindless Entertainment Kids Will Love 15 Nov 2003
By Mark Baker TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
Inspector Gadget is bored. He's been so effective at fighting crime, there's no more crime for him to fight in the city of Riverton. He's been so effective, that the police department is proud to unleash G2, a new, all robot upgrade in the form of a female detective. While smitten with love at first sight, Gadget is crushed when G2 is assigned the case of the escaped Dr. Claw. With Penny's prodding's, he conducts his own investigation, but his glitches keep ruining the day. Will he keep his job? Will anyone ever catch Dr. Claw?

With all new actors (except D. L. Hughley as the voice of the Gadetmobile), this movie feels completely different from the first live action movie. On the plus side, they stuck more to the conventions of the cartoon series, such as hiding Dr. Claw's face. However, this movie doesn't have the humor of the original, relying mostly on slapstick to get laughs. While it works, adult fans of the original will be disappointed. The villain's plan is one of the most original means of committing a crime, and I loved watching the results once I finally figured out what they were up to.

Kids were obviously the target audience of this film, and they'll love watching Gadget bumble into one mess after another. Adults will be entertained as well, even if not to the extent that the first film led us to hope for.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Relaxing Time 3 Sep 2003
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
I enjoyed Inspector Gadget 2. I watched the first one with my grandchildren and we got together again for No2. It was a fun time for all, as we watched Inspector Gadget try to outshine his new lady love. Full of great special effects, lots of gadgets and action, this movie held the attention of the children, which is a plus in my book. If you just want to relax, giggle a little, and not have to let our brain work overtime to figure out a movie, this one is for you and your entire family.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Bit of a Flop... 27 May 2012
Format:DVD
I must say Inspector Gadget 2 was not the best sequel in Disney's history...
There are WAY too many things that randomly happen in the sequel that were not in the original; the most notable ones being...
-Brenda being completely scrapped in replace of G2, especially in Gadget's love life.
-Brain not being able to speak (until he wears the translating collar) although he was shown being able to speak at the end of the first film, probably via another Gadget program.
-The Claw having his face NEVER being shown as in the cartoon, despite us seeing him numerous amounts of times in the first film; I would argue this is because of a dramatic actor change, but with regards to the other actors changing, I didn't think this should be much of a problem.
-Gadget is once again thrown to the bottom of the police force, and the Chief has suddenly lost all respect for him, despite saving the town before.
-The GadgetMobile being just another sidekick, always taking a nap when the action is happening, a big switch from his original comedian attitude and superior-to-the-newbie-Gadget from the first film.
Although G2 was supposed to be more high-tech than the original Gadget, I found her moves and general looks distracting from the main character, and slightly disturbing in places (more noticeably her move in which she detaches herself from her legs, leaving them to go in circular kicks towards her target; that one is bound to give some little kids nightmares).
Altogether, I think this sequel was pretty awful, it was almost as if I was watching a completely different film adaption of the cartoon, and the number of differences from the first film was crazy. In a sequel you expect a few things to be different, but not as many as was in Inspector Gadget 2...
