Product Description

Have you ever been called shy or awkward? How about anti-social?

People are quick to apply these labels to the quieter among us, often with little understanding of what they truly mean. And they often indicate a profound misunderstanding about what it means to be an introvert. Truth is, men and women with a reflective, more inward style have hidden strengths that are often lost in our noisy world.

Beth Buelow is on a mission to change that. Known around the globe as The Introvert Entrepreneur, Beth is an author, speaker and professional coach dedicated to helping introverts understand and embrace their unique gifts.

In this book, she weaves personal stories with wit and wisdom to explore the unique energy that comes along with introversion. Already, it has helped thousands of readers and won rave reviews.

As one fan wrote, "The most precious nugget I am taking away is permission to be who I am and how I am - without apology. What a relief to sink freely into the comfortable, introverted essence of myself and be okay with it!"

Comprised of short, bite-size essays, Insights is an affirming, thought-provoking companion on your journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for Introverts! 23 Feb 2013
Format:Paperback
As a long-time fan of Beth's podcast and website, The Introvert Entrepreneur, I was eager to read this collection of essays on the gifts of introversion. Even though I already love Beth's work, this book exceeded my expectations. In a society that generally views introversion as a handicap, Beth's insights are a breath of fresh air that have certainly helped me reframe what it means to me to be an introvert and appreciate the benefits and gifts that come with this way of processing the world.

The structure of the book is useful, as it's a quick read in general but the different essays allow you to dip in and out based on what interests you most. Some of the content is especially useful for entrepreneurs, however I highly recommend this book to anyone who identifies as an introvert - entrepreneur or not. Beth's writing is frank, witty, down to earth and imbued with positivity; reading each essay is like having a cup of tea and a chat with a wise friend! I consider myself to be (mostly) accepting of my introverted traits, but I feel like reading "Insight" has taken my self-acceptance to a whole new level.

Definitely a book I'll be returning to in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy book for Introverts with useful essays 18 July 2012
By Victoria L. Brown - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I've been following Beth's "The Introvert Entrepreneur" website and Facebook page and was delighted when she said that many of her weblog essays would be published in book form. So delighted, in fact, that I was the first person to place an order for the book! I read it slowly, in bits and pieces, over two days, the better to enjoy each chapter.

I enjoyed all of it, but my favorite chapter was ch 25: "Don't Tell Me to Step Outside My Comfort
Zone.". I agree completely. I hate this phrase! My "comfort zone" is where I'm comfortable. (Duh :-) Why would I want to trade that for being uncomfortable or (worse) for a feeling of discomfort? There are plenty of things that are outside my comfort zone. I leave those to someone else.

Beth suggested "expand your comfort zone" and I would happily have gone along with that; I've been willing to expand my comfort zone and do so regularly. But then she found a new and better term: Capacity Zone. It's perfect. The chapter really resonated with me and I'll be sure to share it the next time someone admonishes me to "ste outside" my comfort zone!

If you're an Introvert, I think you'll like this book. If you're an Extrovert, it may help you to better understand the Introverts in your life (we're used to being misunderstood, but we prefer you to understand us.) If you (like me) have been collecting books by and for Introverts, this one will make a great addition to your collection, in paperback or Kindle format.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME! 10 Aug 2012
By LaughterMD - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book! I read it slowly, relishing and reflecting on its wonderful insights into the psyche of the introvert. I have a bunch of favorite chapters, such as Why 'Fake it 'til you make it' is Lousy Advice, Don't Tell Me to Step Outside My Comfort Zone, and How to Stop Thinking and Start Living, among others.

My advice to all extroverts - want insight into yourself? Read this book and understand what you're NOT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye opener 29 Oct 2012
By Rita - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I felt very empowered after reading this book. I always thought there was something "wrong" with me because I didn't enjoy constant socializing like other people did. I learned a lot about myself reading this book. I think back on my marriage to an extrovert and realize that many of our communication problems had to do with the different ways we processed the world, one as an extrovert and one as an introvert. This book gives a name and an explanation for many of the things I have felt all my life, but didn't really understand. It has also shown me how to be more effective in the world as an introvert. I have read it twice already, and plan to read it slowly once more! ☺ Thank you for appreciating all the introverts of the world!!
