Review

'I would like to thank you for the wonderful guide to Dubrovnik! I went with two friends and we each bought our own guide books; by the end of day two of our holiday, we were only using this one. The things I found most helpful were the separate map, the suggested itineraries and the wealth of information provided. Ultimately we shaped our days around the advice you give in the book and I must say it is the best money I've ever spent on a guide book. I usually find guide books only useful for history and very major attractions, but with yours I feel we really saw Dubrovnik and its surrounds. For my next travels I know where I'll be coming for a guide book - no questions asked. I'll never bother with another publisher again. Keep up the extremely good work!' - Vicki Murphy

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful - and almost up to date 23 May 2010
Format:Paperback
I took this guide with me to Dubrovnik earlier this month. It was really very useful. It tells you all you need to know for a visit to that fascinating city. The excursions suggested are helpful to know about what to do. We were on a package trip where excursions were available so it was useful to know which ones were worth doing as a group or on your own.
It's generally accurate so no real complaints there. One point of interest: there are 3 museums in Dubrovnik - the Franciscan monastery in the city, the ethnographic one in the old Granary high up near the walls and the maritime museum. If you plan to visit all 3 (they are quite interesting) then buy a ticket valid for all 3 at the first one you visit as this will save you a lot of money. Even if you only visit 2 it's worth it.
They are reconstructing the cable car which will take you to the Homeland museum which overlooks the city. No completion date set yet but when it's open it should be a real highlight of a visit to Dubrovnik. The book seems to think it's already up and running - but it isn't. Otherwise this is really quite a helpful guide book for first time visitors.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good, easy to carry book 30 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is an easy book to take on holiday and very good for Dubrovnik and also the surrounding area, including some of the islands.
It also has a map of Dubrovnik in the back. The only problem was the prices are out of date as is some of the information. Especially about the Island of Lokrum which is now a UNESCO nature reserve and has improved since the book was printed. I recommend a visit.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and not up to date 1 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Slightly bulky for a pocket guide we found the contents disappointing. "Follow the city walls clockwise" - it's one way anti clockwise so you have to read the walk guide back to front! Whilst I don't expect a basic guide to double as a dictionary, it's nice to at least be able to greet people and say please and thank you to them in their own language, but you won't even find that in this guide. There is a cable car to the top of the neighbouring hill with a marvellous view over the city and the moving homeland war museum in the old fort at the top. This is something the locals impressed on us we should see - not even mentioned in the guide, so no info on times, prices, location of base station - not even a mention of its existence.
I saw it advertised as a 2012 guide. Please note that it is the 2010 guide reprinted, but not updated, in 2012 so prices etc are well out of date. I'll stick to Berlitz and Top Ten guides in future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Guide 8 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Returned from recent trip to Dubrovnik, always get a guide before travelling to a new destination, this one proved to be really useful, we referred to it a lot, did some of the walks listed, map was really good too. Not too cumbersome, a size. Would definitely recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dubrovnik Insight Pocket Guide 5 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback
A very useful guide. Although there really should be a section for useful Croatian phrases. The Restaurant guide was particularly useful. If you are planning on partaking in the Sea Kayak tour from the Pile Gate, be warned novice rowers may struggle. On a day that the conditions are anything but perfect it is a long way to row!
