I bought this because the other travel guides to the Philippines had fairly poor reviews. I decided to give this one a try and I am pleased that I did.
The guide gives a good introduction to the Philippines.
It contains the usual summaries of geography, history and culture plus extensive descriptions of places to visit, with useful maps and plenty of photographs. Getting around in the Philippines is not straightforward, as travel agents seem to deal mainly with flights. Apart from the main cities, most travel is by bus or boat. There are many shipping companies operating between the different islands and it can be difficult to get reliable information on timetables. This book does not help a lot there (try searching the Internet). The Internet is a better source for information on hotels too. However, the book does give a good introduction to the country and its sights, so it is worth buying for that, in my opinion.
The presentation is attractive and easy to read. At 400 pages it is bigger than some guidebooks so perhaps a bit heavy to carry round with you.
