Product Description

Insight Guide Kenya is illustrated throughout with hundreds of specially commissioned colour photographs. Our inspirational Best of Kenya section illustrates the country's highlights, from wildlife safaris to dive sites and Swahili landmarks to tropical beaches - making sure you don't miss anything.
With a longer and more in-depth history and culture section than its competitors, this guide provides an essential introduction to Kenya's archaeological importance, colonial history and transition to a modern republic and tourist magnet. The informative text, written by regional experts, is a pleasure to read and accompanied by stunning photography. A fact-filled wildlife section covers mammals, reptiles and birds and a handy gazetteer provides an on-the-spot reference source to help identify animals on safari.
Lavish Photo Features offer a unique insight into the country's bird and plant life, and the Maasai tribes people and Swahili culture.
All major sights are cross-referenced with the maps, and the travel tips section provides a wealth of practical information on how to plan your trip, choosing a safari, plus carefully selected hotel and restaurant listings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and very well researched. The Best. 24 July 2013

If you've never considered traveling to Kenya then you almost certainly will change your mind after perusing this ebook. It covers almost every topic you can wish for providing extensive, useful and pleasantly entertaining information. The guide is lavishly illustrated with maps, people, towns, landscapes, fauna and flora. All images can be enlarged to full screen on an iPad in nearly HD detail.
The only small whinge I had was the lack of a CONTENTS or Index making referencing pages difficult in this electronic version. If this was a worry then go buy the print edition. Alternatively bookmark pages you wish to refer to frequently.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this guide 4 Jun 2013

I always enjoy the Discovery Channel Insight Guides when I travel with a group. I don't want to read about hotels and restaurants. I want to read about the place I am going. It was fascinating to read about the history of Kenya. It was not that long ago that Kenya was a British colony (independence in 1963). And this guide contains wonderful maps so I could follow where the guides were taking us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this guide!!!! 10 May 2013

I recently purchased this guide for a foreign study/medical mission trip to Kenya and of all the various types of travel books......this is by far my favorite! The pictures are beautiful and it reads more like a novel than a tourist guide. If you are really interested in getting to know Kenya in depth as opposed to just "skimming by" this is the book for you . I paid $22.95 at Barnes and Noble......all things considered....a great value!

I have purchased Insight guides for other countries and I find them to be a good overview, plus excellent photos. I like the guide to Kenya just as well. Helpful in knowing what to look for!

In previous editions, there was a more fair listing of places to stay with different costs, not just a few very expensive ones. Also, the pictures were not as exceptional as they have previously been. Many are very ordinary.
