About the Author
Brian O'Doherty, a.k.a. Patrick Ireland, is an artist and writer. His work has been shown in numerous galleries and museums in the United States and Europe. His books include Object and Idea (1967) and American Masters: The Voice and the Myth (1973, 1988).

The book offers insights into the world of the exhibition space in an entity itself. Well written and highly insightful, taking you on a journey to find out what is behind the work and how the space informs the way that we think about the work that is shown.

I bought this book for my presentational strategies module during MA.It is very helpful to understand the functions of the museum, relations with the audience etc.

Worth Reading Inside the White Cube

This book is a fascinating analysis of how the World of Art changed with the introduction of the gallery space. It examines the reaction of artists to the confines, both physical and psychological, of the gallery.
I highly recommend this book for any student of art, or artist who wants to broaden their frame of reference with regards to art history and the current trajectory of contemporary art.
