In late 2007, a team of elite Big Wave Surfers volunteered to test a revolutionary new camera system. Their destination: Teahupoo, Tahiti, into the heart of one of the heaviest waves known to man. With over 20 pounds strapped to their backs, they made repeated attempts to capture some of the most spectacular footage ever seen inside of a barrel. If successful, the audience would visually experience a wave like never before. Four days later, the biggest swell in years would hit and the entire Big Wave community would descend upon them...... This is a look, INSIDE Teahupoo, now in High Def Blu-Ray Disc!

3.0 out of 5 stars anverage - good surfmovie 1 Feb 2010
By Vader
Format:Blu-ray
The sound is not 5.1, what I realy disliked!...its stereo. At least thats what my sound system was playing and its a new sound system.
The movie is advertised with those new cameras the surfers wear on their backs while surfing, but the movie is only about 25-30min and there is ONLY a 5min section with scenes filmed with those special cameras, that was very weak!
Overall its an average - good movie with nice bluray quality, looks great on my 46'' tv but I've seen MUCH better surfmovies! Like I said, I was a little disppointed, because it was very short and only 5minutes with those special cameras.

3.0 out of 5 stars ecpected a bit more 5 Jun 2009
By Dimager
Format:DVD
the advertising tells a lot about the 360° camera, and i expected some special 360° movies, but on it there are just few. That movie shows more how they did use this camera.

Well, there are really good other movies from the surfer in Teahupoo. If you wanna see a good surf movie than it's a good one, but if you wanna see cool special 360° movies - i expected more, but i think there is no better one with this kind of camera. Maybe check the web page from the "Inside Teahupoo" or from "red bull surfing" and take a look.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great flick for action, but... 26 July 2010

Some really great surfing once you get over the "testing new filming methods".

Pros: Great surfing, great waves, great scenery and such
Cons: Way too long of the filming-process and detail of gadgetry... Technically,
the film is: "Inside Teahupoo", so... that's what you get... a bunch of
dudes trying to get this perfect action-shot using under-developed tech.

Still give it four-stars because it's beautifully shot and has some great scenes.
I'm a tech-guy, so I understand the process of developing some new tech that has
too many problems to start with, but I'd have thought it would've been worked out
before the film got to rolling. Surfers know how to make the best of anything on
good waves, and it's worth it to check out their style.

It's a great flick, but... if you're looking for Laird-style stuff... this ain't it.
3.0 out of 5 stars Great waves, great riders, lousy DVD 31 Jan 2012

I was so excited at the prospect of having a hi-def Blu-Ray surf DVD of the most dynamic wave on the planet. Imagine my disappointment upon viewing the grainy quality of the picture. I expected near photographic resolution but this looked more like something I'd have seen on my old analog TV. This couldn't hold a candle to my regular, not Blu-Ray, DVD of High Water which showed up beautifully on my flat screen.

And then there's the soundtrack. Okay - the Endless Summer ended decades ago so no one expects gently strumming acoustic guitar. But shredded guitar strings and vocal chords through the whole film - even in the background when people are talking? Did it ever occur to the producers that the audience might be interested in hearing what the folks being interviewed are actually saying? What's the matter with just giving us the actual sound of what's happening in the water? Id like that a lot better then listening to that pretentious pseudo metal that's supposed to heighten our excitement at seeing something that requires no heightening at all.
4.0 out of 5 stars It's a series big waves 10 Sep 2011

Good video with great shots from in-water cameras as well as heli photographers. Nice to see different angles of the same ride - from the guys in the water, to the guys on boats and jet skis and from the chopper guys. It gives an full perspective of the power of the waves, how they're shaped and how they break in Teahupoo. Fabulous to watch and a must for anyone who's thinking about heading down to Tahiti to ride Teahupoo. The power of that break is utterly amazing. I particularly liked Hamilton's comment about having second thoughts about taking off on the wave that ended up becaming the biggest wave he's ever surfed - fear and self preservation over-ruled by personal determination. Neat stuff!!!!
