A "must have" book for anyone who wants to become a firm friend of SQL Server 7.0. This book is not for those who want to "pass" MCDBA exams, but for those who are practical DBAs and developers, alike. Only 4 stars are given because I would have like to see a Volume II of this book, covering Inside SQL Server 7.0 *Replication* and *DTS* at very least. I would have liked to see some more of the undocumented DBCC commands and Trace flags covered in this book. Excellent book overall. A definite "buy".

This book is not comprehensive, but the insider's spin on SQL Server proved invaluable to me when studying for MCP exams 70-028 Admin and 70-029 Implementation. I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for additional material to the basic exam literature

Outstanding 18 Dec 2000

Not a book for beginnners, but if you already have some experience with SQL Server, this will really put some meat on the bones. Lots of info about what's happening behind the scenes, and why - topics that are often skipped in other titles. I read this after the SQL 6.5 version, and although there was significant overlap, there was still plenty of new stuff to keep me interested.

A good all round book covering most of SQL and it's architecture. Not to much on the t-sql side and not to much on the tools sql provides (dts been one of them). Read more
