Biography

Expressed through a distinctive bitter-sweet vocal delivery and harrowing guitar work, Ian's songs hold nothing back. His ability and willingness to share with his audience, naked honesty and genuine emotion, is what sets him apart.

Drawing on an eclectic range of influences, this young man is fast becoming Britain's best loved blues/roots performer. A songwriter genuinely ... Read more in Amazon's Ian Parker Store

Product Description

Young British singer/singwriter with a surprisingly mature-sounding voice, and great lyrics. Tough to trace-down real blues, or bluesy roots.

This showcases the subtle, thoughtful songwriting of Ian Parker. Carefully blended with his instantly recognisable guitar sound, this CD is stunning. Perhaps not on the first listen, but after a play or two you will have the great tunes AND words buzzing around in your head. You may start wondering what prompted such emotional essays, and Ian has provided just that insight on his website ianparkermusic.com
So enjoy the marvellous excitement emotion and showmanship of Ian and his band live, but also celebrate this masterpiece - the coming of age of a wonderful songwriting and singing talent. You will not be disappointed!

This is nothing like Ian Parker's live performances, the solos are limited and the whole sound is far more laid back than I was excpecting. But this is a good debut, think Edgar Winter, the funk of early Springsteen, Eagles ... and plenty of originality. Parker could well be the future of modern blues.

This is amazing stuff, but needs a couple of listens to really get inside your brain. Even after many weeks of constant playing I still can't decide which is my favourite track!
As I listen, each track is now a favourite, only to be replaced by the next one. Ian and David Z have re-worked some old favourites we know and love from the live shows, into completely different versions. And there are many brand new songs too. No covers on this disc. The vocals are very much to the fore so we can hear Ian sing his words clearly. And several of the songs are so catchy I'm sure they could be hits given some radio play.

That's "debut" album complete with inverted commas because Ian and his previous bands have self-released three albums, two EPs and a video. This first commercial release should finally see Ian Parker recognised as what he is; Britain's best young blues-roots songwriter.
Parker's live show is full of superb, lengthy guitar solos, but credit to him and his producer David Z for realising that a studio album should concentrate on his accomplished songwriting. 'Sometimes I Wonder' is perhaps the pick of the bunch, a sparse blues with the album's best lyrics and some intriguing, almost classical sounding acoustic guitar fills. The opener and the epic 'Awake at Night' not far behind.
So what a rare pleasure - a young artist rooted in the blues but not trapped in them; an outstanding guitarist who does not overwhelm the listener with too many showy solos; and a songwriter genuinely literate, sometimes almost literary. Also a special mention for Steve Amadeo, himself something of a rarity; a blues bassist with real lyricism.
Get into this guy early.

Having seen him live a couple of times, I bought the album. Sure, it is slick, has mostly decent songs and is well crafted. The playing is excellent throughout.
However, I dont think it does Ian Parker, the performer, too many favours. It is a fairly low-key affair that has very little change in pace or feel. It certainly doesnt reflect the blues, the passion and power of his stage performances.
I will still check out his other offerings - Maybe there's a live album. That could be great ..

This album is really worth buying. There are no real stand out songs on this album as they are all great. Words fail when you see Ian Parker's live performance, he plays and sings with such emotion. He must do as I keep saying I will not buy any more CD's as I am running out of space to store them, but then you see someone like Ian Parker and you just have to have the CD to listen again and again. BUY it you wont be disappointed.

At long last Ian Parkers first CD as a signed artist.
Inside is a very well produced CD with some beautifully written songs. All self penned with a mixture of Ian's older songs reworked and some new songs, each song has a different feel.
It's one of those CD's that just grows and grows as you listen to it, each time you play it you seem drawn to choose a different track as your favourite. A few tracks on there are real contenders for releases as singles like She Cries or Feeling Whole Again.
This CD has it all soul, blues gospel but best of all real emotion stright from the heart.

I bought this album and Where I Belong after watching some of his videos on youtube and having got tickets to see him live. It is a great album of beautifully written original songs. It got under my skin more the more times I listened to it. My personal favorites are 'Meant to Be' and 'Everything and More'. I must agree with other reviewers though. I would recommend buying the album, but see him live too. You won't regret it. He obviously loves doing what he does and this comes across so well. Highly recommended.
