The 14 pages of this book cover different aspects of life in the Roman Empire, from the city streets, to the baths, to life in the army, and my son's favourite, the Colosseum.

Each page is crammed with interesting and humourous facts about Roman life. The liftable flaps are fun for adults to look at with young children (my son is nearly 5), and the bite size chunks of information make learning possible for those with a short attention span! However, due to the complexity, I think the book is really aimed at older children, who would enjoy reading this book by themselves, since there is plenty of detail to explore. I expect we'll have lots of use out of it in future.

Simply wonderful! 6 Mar 2011
Format:Hardcover
My daughter is thrilled with her copy of this book. She had taken it out of the local library many times, and now has her own copy! She adores looking at the detail and reading the captions. She is a history and archaeology nut and she often stays up late, reading in bed - and this book is often found by her bed late at night!
The pictures are wonderful and the flaps are lovely - robust and colourful, with a lovely mix of quirky text and more detail beneath. A good buy for 6-8 year olds. Would also make a lovely present.

Great book for children 11 Sep 2011
By homeschoolingandlovin'it - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Board book
Just had to add a few words about this book. It's designed for young children so is completely appropriate for 5 yrs and up (if not younger.) All illustrations are 'cartoon' type but very accurately depict life in Roman times (since we are studying that era currently we are familiar with such.) The Roman bath scene shows many men rome-ing about (sorry, couldn't resist) who are naked, however, only their buttocks show - again, in cartoon form. Very inoffensive. The Colosseum page shows a very tiny bit of blood under several very small, dead gladiators - all shown from a distance perspective. So please bear this in mind and don't bypass this book for concern of its appropriateness. We are conservative homeschoolers and highly approve of it. My 9 year-old daughter still loves to lift the flaps on books like these to discover what's beneath so clearly it appeals to a broad range of children.

Excellent book on Rome for kids 2 April 2011
By Anu - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Board book
This is one of the best books to explain Roman life and history to young kids. The illustrations are beautiful and under the flaps one can find out how things worked. Its also humorous (for example it points out a boy who is late for school!). Wonderful find!

Awesome book for a great price 9 Mar 2009
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Board book
This is a great book for a great deal. (For ten bucks, its so worth it) There is some really cool flaps that show you how the Romans lived. If your planning to buy it keep the following in mind.
1. It wouldn't be appropriate for little kids. By little I mean from newborn to probably about five year olds. 'cause the gladiator fights are a little bloody and the baths show people completely naked.
2.The flaps are really cool and can show things that wouldn't be expected.
3.It shows you things that the Romans did that wouldn't be allowed today or you'd be sent to prison or even be killed for.

The Roman book is really cool and my favorite part is the army page. I got it for Christmas this year.
