Product Description

The Independent - Summer 2007
'the book is simple, accessible and admirably brief'

Review

“Innovation is a key characteristic of great leaders… Paul’s book provides practical tips to help anyone in their quest to develop their creative muscles.”

Mark Durrant, Communications Director, EMEA, Motorola

“Guaranteed to make you think differently, challenge the way you and your team work and produce results. Read it end to end and you should be ready to make your fortune!”

Geoff Dodds, Head of Brand Strategy, Lloyds of London

“This book is a practical volume aimed at helping managers achieve the business world’s current Holy Grail of Innovation. The book is simple, accessible and admirably brief.”

The Independent

“Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion.”

Jack Welch, former CEO, GE

“It shows how to apply methods of innovation and creativity to the individual, to business and to the organization.”

Leadershipnow.com

“Busy leaders and senior level executives will love Paul Sloane’s new book, The Innovative Leader. It distills innovation lessons and strategies into a concise, actionable executive summary format that speaks to their needs. You’ll find idea that you’ll want to implement right away in your business.”

Innovationtools.com

“This book aims to help readers transform the creative capabilities and innovation performance of their businesses.”

Personneltoday.com

“The aim of the book is to highlight the means by which organizations can be turned into powerhouses of invention and entrepreneurial achievement.”

Manager

“It’s about two hundred pages of “bite-sized chunks” that will twist your head to see what is possible. So, do as the author suggests and “start biting and start the revolution.”

The CEO Refresher

“An astonishing amount of clarity and impact. Sloane has an amazing ability to walk the line between the pragmatic and the emotional. His more philosophical arguments are still rooted in real business sense, while his logical applications are discussed with passion. This combines to make a captivating read whose return on the reader’s investment of time is sure to be exponential.”

Theleadershipsphere.com

“If you wanted one book to encapsulate creativity and innovation pick this one.”

“Both an inspiration and a reference for success in innovation.”

Leadership Blog, May 2008

“Applies the lessons of lateral thinking to leadership, advocating vision and innovation over control.”

Lifehack.org, Spring 2008

"“This book is a practical volume aimed at helping managers achieve the business world’s current Holy Grail of Innovation.

The book is simple, accessible and admirably brief.”

The Independent

“Contains examples from Virgin, Google, IBM, Toyota, 3M, Disney and WPP, plus advice, guidance and tools to help your team analyse problems and generate ideas.”

Inventique

“Distills numerous innovation lessons and strategies into a concise, actionable executive summary format.

Sloane combines an impressive depth of knowledge about what works and doesn’t work in the world of innovation, along with a strong background in lateral thinking – a chief source of ideas that fuel breakthrough innovation.

Unlike some innovation books, in which the author spends several hundred pages outlining his or her pet innovation framework, Sloane provides the reader with an eminently practical collection of innovation tips, examples and strategies. You’ll find idea that you’ll want to implement right away in your company.”

Innovationtools.com

"Designed to be read in bite-sized chunks the book contains examples, advice, guidance and valuable tools that can be put to use immediately"

"Helps develop your creative muscle"

Business Executive, November 2007

5.0 out of 5 stars An Inspiring Read, 10 Sep 2007
By Mr. R. Knox (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

If you run or work in a business which is slow to change or is risk averse, then I would advise you to read this book. Paul gives a lot of practical guidance which I found stimulating and inspiring. Once you can contextualise it to your own situation you can see the possibilities that Paul talks about at length.

5.0 out of 5 stars An action-packed book!, 22 Jul 2007

Aspiring creative leader, let Paul Sloane's "The Innovative Leader" be a guide for your actions, for your business, for yourself. It's a great book!

It's fun. It's serious. It's one hundred and seven things to do for yourself, for your company, with your people. Each section is between half a page and three pages. It's organized under six headings: Leading Innovation, Problem Analysis, Generating Ideas, Implementing innovation processes, Building a creative culture, Personal creativity.

It's practical. It's simple. It's a list of things to do and be. Don't tell, ask. Keep fit. Train for innovation. Try weird combinations. Tell stories. Be passionate. Encourage dissent.

It's challenging. It's disruptive. It's high energy.

Aspiring creative leader, will you really do this stuff? Or some of it? You should. It's simple. Not easy. Try. You have nothing to lose but your rusty chains to obsolescence. You have a world to win.

5.0 out of 5 stars INNOVATE OR DIE, 18 May 2007
By J. Burnie (Surrey, UK) - See all my reviews

Paul Sloane's latest book is a great read. Short punchy chapters in six different sections make this one of the easiest to read "management" books I have ever read. Full of innovation and both big and little ideas, there is something in it for everyone in business be it BP plc or a small enterprise with less than 50 employees. The final section on personal creativity has a place in everyone's life be it work or leisure with great practical suggestions under headings such as "Simplify your life" and "Be disconnected".
