Product Description

Product Description

Focusing on the future challenges companies face in being continously innovative, this book is based on a combination of world class talks given at the Innovation Exchange (IE) conference in November 2001. Through interviews with various companies, the book identifies the best and worst practices in innovation strategy. Three main topics are discussed in detail: trends, challenges, and paradoxes. Utilizing practical and academic knowledge, with a strong reliance on real–world applicability, the book will help readers build innovation performance into their companies.

From the Inside Flap

What is the Innovation Exchange?

The Innovation Exchange (IE) is a network of leading companies dedicated to exploring, understanding and promoting innovation to improve performance, based at London Business School (LBS).

The initiative was set up in response to managers′ desire to exchange experience and discuss challenges in a non–competitive environment. Its official launch at LBS took place on 19th January 1999, supported by key figures from industry and government. Members of the IE champion the principles of innovation both within their own companies and throughout the global business community. The Exchange provides access to:
∗ Specialist and practical knowledge

∗ Access to privileged sources of information

∗ A forum to network with like–minded organisations

∗ Events including workshops, masterclasses, company visits, and an annual conference
The IE web site can be found at iexchange@london.edu. Membership information is also available on +44(0)20 7262 5050 x3396.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very rich book on how to make your company more innovative, 4 May 2003
By Richard Stomp - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Innovation Wave: Meeting the Corporate Challenge (Hardcover)
I'm an innovation and strategy manager in The Netherlands and I've read many books and articles on the subject. This book stands out, because it offers a huge amount of information, best practices, thoughts, dilemma's and paradoxes on the subject. The author is responsible for running the Innovation Exchange Initiative at London Business School at wich Innovative companies exchange information. This position garantuees she can tap into the latest insights on innovation.
The book also has contributions from great thinkers on Innovation, like Gary Hamel, Costas Martides and so on.
I'm preparing my MBA dissertation on the subject of Innovation and this book offered the best insights so far.
Mind you: this book is NOT an easy to follow 5-step guide to innovation walhalla. You really have to think for yourself!
My overall opinion: highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sound advice on innovtion, 5 Oct 2003
By Bill Godfrey - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Innovation Wave: Meeting the Corporate Challenge (Hardcover)
The core themes of this book are:
* that change is constant and continuous innovation the only viable response
* that successful innovation requires 'an holistic approach that aligns strategy and vision, process, leadership style and culture to the innovation ambition'
* that there are many ways to start on the journey, but the journey never ends. Innovation is ultimately a way of life.

The text is made up of sound advice, well arranged, and interspersed with short essays by experts in the field (such as Gary Hamel and Costas Markides). Each chapter ends with a summary list of 'anchor points'.

There is a good last chapter of suggested further reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for anyone creating an innovative organisation!, 9 Jun 2003
By Ewan R. Brown "eoghan_ruaridh" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Innovation Wave: Meeting the Corporate Challenge (Hardcover)
This book takes great guru speak by interesting people like Gary Hamel and Costas Markides and adds to it insightful commentary by the author. Bettina von Stamm is not just an editor of all this wisdom; she is obviously expert in her own right, drawing on deep experience to navigate the reader through the "endless sea of innovation challenges". As entertaining as it is helpful.
