Product Description

A CAPTIVATING STORY OF SURVIVAL OVER ADVERSITY, THE RIGHTING OF PAST WRONGS AND THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF LOVE.
Two sisters separated as children and raised in very different lifestyles – one of privilege, the other squalor.

Can they learn to trust and overcome past grievances and be reunited as a family, or will jealousy and resentment destroy them both? For innocence once betrayed can never be regained.

The daughter of a wealthy but cold and unfeeling Edwardian merchant Kara Wyse’s life changes drastically when her father is arrested for debt and commits suicide. Facing poverty she also learns that the mother she had believed dead is still alive. Florence Wyse ran off with a lover when Kara was a young child and took her baby Beatrice with her. Learning of their existence Kara is determined to establish herself as a businesswoman and discover the whereabouts of her family.

Beatrice had led a very different life from her sister and has been brought up in poverty and squalor. To survive Beatrice has become a pickpocket and the mistress of the evil Fancy Gilbert linked with the London criminal underworld. When she learns of Kara’s existence and of her pampered childhood, she is embittered and jealous. When Kara unwittingly marries the man Beatrice loves, Beatrice vows that her sister will pay for all the wrongs she has suffered.

Innocence Betrayed is a fast moving and compulsive story of the diverse lifestyles existing in Edwardian London. It tells of the darker side of kinship, revenge and retribution – and the redemptive power of love.

Kate Tremayne is a brilliant writer. I find it difficult to put the book down until I have read at least 3 chapters. I find her stories very interesting and cannot wait until I get to the end.
