Product Description

Not Lame Recordings

A truly unique blending of moody, melody drenched hooks colored divinely with violin and cello stringed strummings that's breathtakingly beautiful.

LA Weekly

Innercity Garden has my vote for best song of the summer. An L.A. Treasure? You bet!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a tantalizer! (Review By Michael Toland), 14 Mar 2011
This review is from: The Innercity Garden (Audio CD)
THE BLACK WATCH is one of those bands that's never gained the cult audience it's always deserved, despite a consistently strong career of literate guitar pop stretching back to the 80s. The Innercity Garden EP is merely a taster for the band's forthcoming album The Hypnotizing Sea, but what a tantalizer it is. 'Innercity Garden' rocks harder than anything the band has done in the past, while still retaining a graceful sense of melody and lyrical poetry. It's the hit single the Watch has always had in it. The wry 'Dylan, Dylan, Dylan' and the lovely 'Moonlight Thru Ivy' emphasize the folkier aspects of the band's personality to excellent effect, while 'The Teacup Song Take Two' jangles nicely in the style of mid-80s indie pop. Boasting some of the veteran band's best material ever, this EP bodes extremely well for the next full-length.

3.0 out of 5 stars My Bloody Black Watch, 28 Nov 2005

(VINE VOICE)    (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: The Innercity Garden (Audio CD)
The Black Watch have been plying their trade since the late eighties, specialising in melodic drone and psychedelia, as explored by the likes of My Bloody Valentine.

Nowadays, they probably have more in common with the likes of Mercury Rev and the Flaming Lips as any of their earlier influences. The title track of the EP is probably the most 'indie' track on offer, but once you get past that, they get busy experimenting with sounds and styles from the folk rock (natch) of "Dylan, Dylan. Dylan" to the Roy Harper like "Moonlight Thru Ivy" and then back into indie territory for "The Teacup Song Take Two".

It's probably a bit too indie for me but if you have a secret yearning for Robyn Hitchcock, then you may enjoy this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Literate pop!, 5 Sep 2005
By Mitchell Dickerman - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Innercity Garden (Audio CD)
The Black Watch have been making great music for well over 15 years. If you're a fan of Robyn Hitchcock, the Jazz Butcher, or the Go-Betweens, you need to check them out! John Andrew Fredrick writes tunes that stick in your head and lyrics that paint a three-dimensional picture of a time and place.

The tracklisting for this EP is:
The Innercity Garden
Dylan, Dylan, Dylan
Moonlight Thru Ivy
The Teacup Song Take Two

This is a preview of their forthcoming NINTH album, _The Hypnotizing Sea_ and I can't wait to hear it!
