Light Years Ahead of the rest!!,

This review is from: Inner Voices (Audio CD)
Having been a fan of LOTW many years ago i,probably like many others, thought they were no more and had gone on to other things [incognito etc}.I had always admired their tight rhythm section and blastin' horns 'a la' Earth Wind and Fire and it was a very pleasant surprise when i heard the song 'Bahia'{included here}on Jazz FM late last year.Being an 'old funkster'I find it lamentable that there arent more quality 'bands' out there but in LOTW we certainly have one! With this album they are certainly back with a vengeance right from the word go! I LIKE THE WAY is a perfect appetiser with it's harmonious vocals and a hint of a latin feel mixed in with those fabulous horns { and believe me , you'll wonder why they ever went away when you hear 'em! }.Put in a guitar solo , trombone solo and piano solo and you're away! CITY LIFE is a cool cruisin' mid tempo thang c/w street sounds and dreamy vibes with a great EWF guitar riff. BACK2BACK is one of those 'live' sounding tracks and kicks in with a killer bass line and punch keys with everyone having a groovy time then the horns take centre stage and just blast you away.Throw in a vocal chant and you'll want to join in! THE POWER is a great tune with a great hook and again that superb horn section on a pounding beat and probably the most pop sounding on the album but none the worse for it. BLUE SKY DAY finds the boys in the latin department with the rhythm chugging away under feel good harmonies and lovely flute. We then have a short interlude { dont you just love those?!} and shift into SLOW DOWN which is really rather good, boasts a fab sax intro and solo too with a great chorus and vocals and a ballad to boot! BAHIA comes next and if there is a 'standout'track this is it. From it's opening sounds of a hot summer night this latin midtempo song really hits the mark.Beautiful flutes and trombone and excellent dreamy vocal harmonies make you wanna be there and the steel drums have you reaching for the cocktails. An excellent laid back rhythm and instantly memorable you'll be humming it forever as it winds it's way down to the end and those night sounds again....perfect. SOME PEOPLE SAY is vintage LOTW.Tight rhythm and massive horns with organ meandering all over the place, funky guitar and simple voacals and bags of horn solos. PART TIME LOVER again is a great ballad with lovely keys and bass and is a plea from the heart. MIND GAMES finishes off the album{ apart from the neat interlude at the end which they could make into a proper song}and again features those great horns on a great song which is really catchy. So there you go. I enjoyed this album immensely and urge you to go buy it.One of those you can put on and leave it to play all the way thru and then some more! The production is superb too and the songs have been well put together not just thrown in there { no fillers on this album!}.Knocks spots off anything Incognito have come up with and will be one of the best i'll buy all year.Welcome back lads!!!!!!

Simply Fantastic,

Having been a huge fan of LOTW earlier 80's music and having brought nearly all of Incognito's albums I thought this would be worth a gamble. Anyway I was not dissapointed. It is a superb album in every way with a fantastic range of uptempo and more mellow jazz funk tunes including some great vocals. To be honestin my opinion this album knocks spots of anything Incognito have produced in the last 10 years. Buy it...you will not be dissapointed!!

One of the best Jazz/Fusion releases of 1999,

Light of the World are back with their first release for over a decade and boy its seems like they have never been away! Inner Voices contains all the original elements of the Light of the World we all know and love, from the opening rauser 'I Like The Way U Make Me Feel', the London Town sounding 'City Life' to the JB funk of 'Back 2 Back' the upbeat of 'The Power' to the mellow sound of 'Blue Sky Day' and the latin feel of 'Bahia'. Its all here from jazz, fusion, funk, latin & soul. If you liked their earlier releases, you will not be disappointed. The boys are back with a vengence!
