Jonny Trunk proves once again that he has no equal when it comes to uncovering musical gems you never knew of but once heard you can't imagine living without them. Such an artiste is Sven Libaek, represented here on this superb compilation spanning four impossibly rare LPs (from which the disc is expertly mastered). A cherished secret of Library music fans for years, the ludicrously talented Norwegian is surely standing on the edge of a worldwide renaissance after the sterling work done by JT in compiling this CD. The appearance of some of his cuts in Wes Anderson's "Life Aquatic" and the appearance on CD of Libaek's masterpiece, "Solar Flares" and the complete soundtrack to "Inner Space" would seem to suggest that is indeed the case! I look forward with indecent impatience to more of Sven's work re-appearing so buy this CD and MAKE IT SO!

This is indeed great music! But beware - this release does not include the entire soundtrack to Inner Space. The whole soundtrack has been released by Votary Records and it is (also) excellent. Half of the music on this release comes from LP's as stated in another review. But that stuff is equally good which is why I bought both releases. Excellent but a bit misleading. Not actually the album you may think

This is an excellent cd full of some of beautiful mellow jazz music, and I highly reccomend it. The only problem is the title of the album " Innerspace ". This album contains 4 of the tracks from innerspace, but it's not the same album, even though it has the same title and cover which can make it even MORE confusing. I'm not complaining, just providing some information so people won't be confused. The real Innerspace is actually the album of music Sven Libaek scored for the underwater documentary of the same name in 1973, and it's actually a pretty rare album and his best in my opinion. But it's an entirely different album from this one and it's very rare and hard to find ( if you look hard enough you can purchase a copy on ebay from Austrailia ) This album contains more of Libaek's late 60's music, which is very different, but excellent
Anyway, about THIS album itself. This album like I said, is mostly a compilation of his work from the late 60's rather than his early 70's music like Solar Flares and Innerspace. 4 tracks from Innerspace are on this album, but like I said, the rest is all from the 60's. His 60's music is alot different. It still has the jazz approach but it is much more upbeat and lively ( kind of sounds like music from 60's godzilla movies, which is not a bad thing ) than stuff you would find on Innerspace which is much warmer, mellow and atmospheric to the film for which it was written. Anyways, I hope this review can clear up some of the confusion between the two albums Innerspace: The lost film music of Sven Libaek ( This album, which in fact only contains 4 songs from the Innerspace film ) and Innerspace ( which is the complete soundtrack of music from the film Innerspace 1973 )

You NEED to buy this... trust me

I'm not really a kid, but I didn't want to create an account. In any case, I just bought this at my local record shop today and it is a fantastic album full of warm tones, jazzy orchestrations and fuzzy electronics. The music is a collection of compositions Libaek wrote for four obscure Australian oceanic/nature/surfing films spanning 1965-1974, and it includes a couple of themes used in Wes Anderson's 2004 Life Aquatic film. If you enjoyed the incidental music from Life Aquatic, or are just craving that 60s-70s National Geographic/educational film sound, this is a must-have album to add to your collection.

I think Wes Anderson (or whoever choses the songs) creates the perfect soundtracks. I purchased this album after owning the Life Aquatic soundtrack. The music on this album is in between Dave Brubeck and Bob James. Although I'm just a music fan, not a hardcore jazz aficionado. If you were only luke warm about the two tracks on the Life Aquatic soundtrack, I would hesitate to buy it. If you are somewhat interested in jazz and like what you've heard already, you will love this album. I also strongly recommend anything by Seu Jorge, who sung five David Bowie songs in Portuguese on the soundtrack.
