Synopsis

For more than 100 years, secret magical manuscripts from the Order of the Golden Dawn's inner order of adepts Rosae Rubeae et Aureae have been unseen by most students of the esoteric. This includes the Golden Dawn Alchemical teachings, Secret Teachings of the Zelator Grade and the important Caduceus paper. These have either been gathering dust on some collector's shelves, or have been worked by those who have continued the Order's work. So secret were these documents, Israel Regardie was unaware of them and subsequently many of the modern Orders of the Hermetic Order of Golden Dawn who were dependent on his encyclopaedic 'Golden Dawn' for their teaching have left out much of this work. However, the papers contained in this book provide the much needed keys to understand the Golden Dawn system in its entirety. However, just as the Golden Dawn was not just intellectual information gathered under one heading but contained oral instruction to make the system come alive, so this material came with extensive traditions that make it useful to the student.

For the first time, Golden Dawn authority Pat Zalewski, who was trained by the Inner Order adepts of the Golden Dawn, reveals the key to this material. "This book is vital for anyone who claims to follow the Golden Dawn tradition. It reveals the depth of the teaching of the Rosae Rubeae et Aureae and Zalewski's instructions show how this may be practically used. Without this material, it is difficult to see how a modern Golden Dawn adept could claim the title."

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for the student of the Golden Dawn 1 Dec 2008
By Paul Clark - Published on Amazon.com
This work reveals in a manner that is clear and revealing, the subjects the initiates of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn studied to develop their full potential as spiritual aspirants. The author has penetrated to the core of this system of initiation and explained it in a consise style that is easy to understand. It also reveals material that has not been previously covered in the many books on the G.D. I highly recommend it and the other works by Mr. Zalewski. ---Paul A. Clark, Author of "The Broken Seal" and Steward of the Fraternity of the Hidden Light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book -- but understand what the contents are 10 Mar 2009
By Alex Kennedy - Published on Amazon.com
This book is an excellent collection of commentaries on the various Outer-Order Golden Dawn Grades. It is extremely helpful for the Adept-level practitioner, but should not be thought of as directions, instructions, or "recipies" for Adepts -- instead, it is a collection of guiding principles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Important Addition to GD Corpus 5 April 2010
By Andrew James - Published on Amazon.com
Mr. Zalewski has given the GD practitioner a solidly developed series of esoteric essays. The essay-chapters present well-wrought associations onto the traditional images, schemes and diagrams from the rituals. The organization of the material appears to be original, although the various pieces belong to the collective Western mystery tradition. Mr. Zalewski's own hard work mining the veins of arcane lore is evident throughout the book, qualities to be appreciated by all occultists.

Chapter One: The Universe
Chapter Two: The Table of Shewbread
Chapter Three: The Order of the Heptagram
Chapter Four: The Hermetic Cross
Chapter Five: Golden Dawn Alchemical Teachings
Chapter Six: Secret Teachings of the Zelator Grade
Chapter Seven: Practicus Adeptus Minor
Chapter Eight: Alchemy and the Tarot
Chapter Nine: The Moon and the Tarot
Chapter Ten: The Caduceus

My one complaint is regarding the poor editing which at times makes the narrative stumble. If this arises from the author or the publisher, I can't know. Doesn't the publisher (Thoth) bear some responsibility for editing?

At any rate, the book is well worth it, and I encourage anyone involved in using Golden Dawn correspondences and the system to read the book and soak it up.

2.0 out of 5 stars A good book for an "insider" 5 Jun 2009
By Mary A. Miller - Published on Amazon.com

I have read quite a bit about the Golden Dawn, trying to get "inside" the minds of AE Waite, Pamela Coleman-Smith, Mathers (Mina and her husband), et al.

This book is for those who have studied under previous books of the GD in higher ranks...The lingo is too varient for an outsider to understand, the instructions and definitions (clairifications) are confusing at best. Chic Cicero and his wife, have a more simplified way of putting the rituals, the uses of Tarot, as well as the Kaballah.

If you are looking to understand the Golden Dawn philsophy and rituals, your best bet might be to look at their books and Mary K Greer's.

He spent a great deal of time, explaining how his group was the last of the GD's in the world...ok..and...?

I like to read intellectual books, but I prefer to read ones that don't pontificate their understanding in a way that makes the reader feel stupid. There are better books out there, I promise.
