Product Description

Overcome obstacles, improve concentration and reduce nervousness to reach a new level of musical performance with this bestselling guide. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Book Description

The battle that many musicians, of whatever level, have to face is an inner one - against nervousness, self-doubt and fear of failure. In this highly successful book, first published by Pan in 1987, musician Barry Green explains the basic principles of 'natural learning' that make up the Inner Game methodology, and shows how to apply them to reach a new level in the learning and performing of music. With special features on ensemble playing, improvisation and listening skills, and with exercises that help intonation, artistic phrasing and technique, The Inner Game of Music is invaluable to performers, students, teachers and anyone with an interest in music. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

This book is now my new bible, It has helped me so much in overcoming those performance nerves that you will always aquire at a performance. My self doubt and fear of failure has always been a problem, this book is the solution to my problem and has made me look at performance in a whole new perspective. My nerves have been reduced to that of a 'fun' feeling instead of gut wrenching sensation. Now I enjoy performance and have found myself to be more relaxed, this is one game you can't miss out on!!

A frustrating read 9 Sep 2010
By Sandy
Format:Paperback
Had high hopes for this book after hearing good things about other books in the Inner Game series, but was disappointed. Getting to the nitty-griity is really frustrating as there is an awful lot of padding. This book could have been reduced to a third the size if the author had got straight to the point.

Beginner's review 3 Sep 2009
Format:Hardcover
I can't believe that this book has been written by a bass player/tutor. There's so much that applies to me as a guitarist. Reading it made me feel more calm and confident just knowing that so many professional musicians struggle against the inner person. Lots of good practical tips and exerises to try out. Bit cheesy in some parts where students' experiences are related. Over-all it helps to structure or categorise your mental experiences and nerves then gives coping stategies.
