Synopsis

In this fantasy adventure based on Cornelia Funke's book, a young girl named Meggie watches as her father causes fictional characters to leap into reality. But a formerly book-bound baddie takes Meggie's dad hostage, and it's up to the junior heroine--and some fictional help--to rescue her father.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, 22 May 2009

Being sf and fantasy films fans, we watched this with interest. We all liked it; the story was very original which is a plus! But it lacked the wow factor or me.

However it was not without its merits, Spot Helen Mirren!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for an evening's entertainment, 16 April 2009
By D. LAMBDIN (Eugene, OR United States) - See all my reviews

Although not at the top of my list, Inkheart is entertaining enough for an evening. The acting is somewhat uneven and the picture is not as sharp and 3-D as I would like to see in a Blu-ray DVD. The True HD 5.1 sound is passable, but not spectacular. If you look on the back of the box, the aspect ratio is listed as 1.78: 1. This is in error; it is actually 2.35 or 2.40: 1, which is what I had expected it to be. That means that if you have an anamorphic lens on your projector and a 2.35: 1 screen, you can maximize the impact of the image (sometimes spectacular).

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, 9 Aug 2009
By Ihab (Strathaven, Lanarkshire) - See all my reviews
Was looking forward to a memorable film with the children, but was disappointed. Even the actors looked as if they were working half- heartedly in their roles, no exception. There have been so few films that I considered to be waste of my money, and this is certainly one of them. One star for the story, but unfortunately it was severely let down by less than average script and acting.
