Children's fantasy action adventure. Meggie (Eliza Bennett) travels all over the world with her father Mo 'Silvertongue' Folchart (Brendan Fraser), a skilled bookbinder. Mo has a very special talent: he is able to bring story characters to life as he reads. When he brings three characters to life from the medieval tale 'Inkheart', fire-eater Dustfinger (Paul Bettany) and the villainous duo Capricorn (Andy Serkis) and Basta (Jamie Foreman), he unleashes a terrible evil that will come back to cause all kinds of trouble for his family for years to come. Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent co-star.

`Inkheart' is a pretty decent fantasy adventure about a man (called a Silvertongue) who can read books aloud and make then come alive. He did exactly this many years ago and lost his wife into a book, whilst setting some rather unsavoury characters free. As you can imagine this would lead to many adventures and how they are resolved is where this film leads. There are numerous literary references throughout this film, from Peter Pan to The Wizard of Oz, Huckleberry Finn to The Minotaur and more besides and this aspect makes the film more magical as the main characters interact with characters from classic fiction of the past. Andy Serkis plays an excellent baddie and the strong fantasy elements make the battle between good and evil all the more potent. Having not read the original book I came to his film with no preconceptions and also had the luxury of not being disappointed by any changes to the storyline. As a stand alone film this makes good viewing and just over 100 minutes of fantasy adventure suitable for all the family. I have seen better fantasy films (`Stardust' being one of them) but this still isn't bad and it is a good way to spend an afternoon. Worth a viewing.

What if ? you read a book out loud and the characters within came forth...............well..........9 years ago 'Mo' ( Brendan Foster ) does just that, trouble is...when the characters from the book 'inkheart' appear 'Mo's' wife dissapears into the book he'd read.
the evil character's he'd brought forward take the book with them and flee to an unknown place to fulfill the evil thoughts the book had lined up for them.
'Mo' s quest now with his daughter 'Meggie'(Eliza Bennett) is to find a copy of the book...find the character's he'd brought out and try and reverse what he had done.
This is a decent enough family film that can be enjoyed by all, it has a strong cast including 'Brendan Fraser' ( The Mummy ) 'Paul Bettany'( A Knight's Tale ) 'Helen Mirren' ( The Queen ) 'Jim Broadbent' ( Iris ) and 'Andy Serkis' ( Lord of the Rings )

Thought we'd give this a go even after mixed reviews as the price was right. Was it a mistake? . Yes! Whilst it was not a bad film it is such a miss on so many levels. It takes an age to get started and once it does the magic just does not pull it along . Brendon Fraser just muddles along and is out classed by Paul Bettany whose character stands out above all the others and holds the whole film together . We went for the bluray version for the added clarty but that failed to deliver when viewed on our projector. 3 stars but only just

Have you ever wanted to bring the characters of a book to life? Well that's just what Brendan Fraser does. The film was not what I was expecting (less action and more emotion) but thoroughly enjoyable. Watching it on blu-ray takes the film to another level, the special effects spring to life and it almost feels like you are there with them. I would definately recommend it, maybe for the older kids and growns up (my 9 year old step-daughter was bored).

Firstly, the Blu-Ray is excellent and really brings this fantasy film to life. Anything with Andy Serkis is I'll watch and he doesn't disappoint as a convincing literary baddy. the inventive story, the pace of the film and a fair sprinkling of literary allusions and puns are good for the adult too.

My youngest daughter has watched this one several times and, for us, its no hardship. The story is entertaining enough, with fun action. The acting is fine. The sound mix isn't remarkable, but its good. Visually: again, good.

I usually enjoy fantasy films, but this one didn't really do it for me. Some good ideas here but not enough of them. Andy Serkis makes for an entertaining villain however, despite having limited screen time.
