Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

It seems like the terms catchy and punk shouldn't go together, but for the Offspring, they do. Listening to Ignition, one gets the sense of rage tightly controlled, powering the band's up-tempo, driving material. While their sensibility is firmly punk, the Offspring have clearly borrowed from heavy metal for their chord progressions and guitar sound--check out the solos on "Nothing from Something" and "Forever and a Day". While this album didn't have the major-label success of its follow-up, Smash, all the ingredients that made that record a hit are here, if not quite as refined: angry, incisive lyrics; fast-driving rhythms; and--dare one say it--melodic chord progressions. It's easy to hear why Ignition was an underground hit and why the Offspring's later records, while somewhat diluted, have been so successful. --Genevieve Williams

a classic 4 Jan 2004
Format:Audio CD
When i first heard this album, i really didn't like it because i was so used to the sounds of Conspiracy of One and Americana so i didn't listen to it for a while. But like so many amazing albums, you often cant stand it before you realize its true potential to be brilliant. Hugely powerful songs such as dirty magic (my favourite offspring song) are complemented by songs with catchy riffs and lyrics such as 'Kick him when he's down' and 'Burn it up'.

This album is definitely more heavy going than their more recent releases and really makes Splinter sound a bit of a joke to be honest (not a fan). If you're an offspring fan and love the rawer sounds of smash and ixnay, get this album and if you're a fan or Americana, C of 1 or Splinter listen to this album and see what you think. If you dont know The Offspring, this should be the first album in your collection. If you want a great rock album, GET IGNITION NOW!

This is one of the offsprings finest. A lot of people i know say they hate this album but thats because they havent given it time. After a couple of listens this becomes one AWESOME ALBUM! Every track works. Theres the catchy slice of Punk rock that is "LAPD" and the screaming "KICK HIM WHEN HE'S DOWN". And if thats not enough its got their finest ever song "Dirty Magic" which is one of the best songs ever! Dont listen to the slates and trust me, BUY THIS NOW!

dang its good 26 Feb 2006
Format:Audio CD
ok yes this didnt sell as many copies as smash or probably any of the other albums they released after that but it should have done. it is a fantastic album from start to finish. the songs are fast and punchy and probably among the heaviest that the spring have ever written. you can see very clearly that this album is the logical progresion from their self titled debut with all the rawness of any punk band to the slightly more polished uber record that was smash. ignition is no better or no worse than either of those records and it is shame that this album seems almost to have been left behind as it is a phenominal if basic collection of ludicrously catchy songs. all about three minutes long and with wall to wall waa-ooo`s. simple, direct, basic all of these are true and that is what makes this band so good and they didnt do it much better anywhere else than this album.
