Product Description

Product Description

Inglaterra is a fresh, contemporary, cutting-edge salsa album from top UK salsa and jazz pianist - Alex Wilson. Alex's fifth album release features his twelve piece Power Latin band, with nine slamming salsa tracks, ranging from hard-core Puerto Rican salsa to salsa-reggaeton crossover, cutting edge salsa-soul, and an Asian music collaboration. He has also recently recorded on Toumani Diabate's Boulevard de l'Inpedendence, and now brings us his latest musical offering.

Inglaterra includes an exciting collaboration with Indian percussion maestro Kuljit Bhamra and young up-and-coming vocalist Shahid Abbas Khan. The resulting bhangra-salsa track `Oh Kuri' is a first in both the Latin and Indian music world. Ever the one to seek out new talent, Alex invited soul diva Aquilla Fearon to join the band. On the album she sings a rip-roaring salsa version of Chaka Khan's `Ain't Nobody'. A further soul-salsa original `Show Me' is sung by the formidable Mary Pearce. This song has been released as a single and has already become a firm favourite on the dance floor. The entire album is underpinned by Alex's long-time salsa heavyweights: Paul Jayasinha on trumpet, Colombian vocalist Alfonso de Jesus, Ska Cubano's Rey Crespo, Incognito's Trevor Mires and top percussionists Davide Giovannini, Emeris Solis and Dave Pattman.

Review

What an ensemble...a Latin-Jazz collection that's more innovative and more powerful than anything currently coming out of the barrios -- Blues & Soul

Just received the album yesterday. I've been dancing Salsa for about a year and have been after the track 'Ain't Nobody' since I first heard it at the end of last year - it's such a good cover of the original and fills the dancefloor every time. The rest of the album is equally as solid, and i'm sure will sound just as fresh in many years to come. I would recommend this album to anyone who dances Salsa or who is into latin music in general.

Alex Wilson faced quite a challenge to match the R n B latino album.

Firmly focused on the salsa dance market. As with all good salsa, it's impossible to sit still to this stuff. The pace is frenetic and passionate, the band and the production are all spot on. Best appreciated in a live set (the full band tend to play for a good two hours, interacting with the audience as much as possible). Some fans may already have two tracks from previous recording sessions, but these are new recordings and there's enough new material here in any case. I suspect that the bulk of the albums will shift at live performances when people want to take away the memory of one of the best gigs that they'll ever spend the entire set dancing to. Newbies should not overlook the earlier groundbreaking R n B latino album also.

New to salsa. I bought this because I had heard Inglaterra in a club. The entire CD is full of great tunes, but that version of "Ain't Nobody" is (as we said back in the day) THE BOMB! RnB Latino is next!
