4.0 out of 5 stars Actually it's very good!, 8 Nov 2009
This review is from: Infrared Riding Hood (Audio CD)
Tad were/are the heaviest of the Seattle bands, yet on many occasions were able to display a melody and harmony of noise which bellied the singer's vast form and uncompromising snarl. This, their final and much maligned second major label stab is unfairly confined to the bottom shelf. Red Eye Angel is every bit as a good as better known poppy Tad tracks such as Gouge (Inhaler) and Flame Tavern (8-Way Santa), while the likes of Bullhorn and Bludge easily compare with Tad at their heaviest. The real stand out track on here is Dementia, which in a parallel universe appears on an early Foo Fighters record, where it is given the praise it deserves. It's not a perfect record (there aren't any perfect Tad records, that's why they're not uttered in the same breath as the likes of Nirvana-Jam-Chains) but what it is up with at least anything else the band recorded. Uncompromising yes, heavy certainly, worth buying? Beyond doubt. Here's to a reunion tour, coming to a bar near you, circa 2017...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of musics alltime UNDERRATED records !!!, 3 Jun 2011
This review is from: Infrared Riding Hood (Audio CD)
Time should be kind to this TAD album - Released in 1995.

It had poor sales due largely to the record company not promoting it at all - TAD were dropped by the record company a week after it's release.

DAMN SHAME!!

It's a classic record - both melodic & heavy in places - It sounds fresh even now.

I like the production a lot, the band are tight & has some very cool songs to back it up.

'Dementia' may well be my favourite TAD song.

It's accessible sounding and has variety.

Not a million miles away from the Foos and lemonheads in parts as well as having that quintisential TAD sound also.

More people should dig this record.

TAD are a classic band & I would HIGHLY recommend this album with all of their others.

1.0 out of 5 stars The harmonies dont work, 8 Aug 2009

I'm a fan of TAD's other albums but this one disappoints....

I've read reviews about this album, and how this essentially was the downfall of the mighty TAD. Obviously I had to listen to it myself and come to my own conclusions.

Some nice heavy riffs and growling vocals, but too many times Tad Doyle is trying to sing harmonies which just don't work. He's not a talented singer which just causes those parts of the tracks to fall flat. Also the lyrical content sounds forced and doesn't have as much impact as earlier stuff.

I wouldn't bother with this one as after two plays through the listenability has gone and it is now in my CD rack set to gather dust.

Spend your money on 8 Way Santa or Inhaler!
