This book is quite technical and is not meant for amateur photographers who want to dabble with IR for a couple of rolls to play around with. For professionally trained photographer's, this book is the standard of excellence in IR. So I disagree with those who have given this book low rating reviews. But I understand why. It is a very technical book aimed at understanding the nuances of IR film.. When one thinks about it, without an understanding of a film's characteristic's you are just guessing no matter what the film type!!! Bravo for this important work!!!

In spite of the fact that HIE film is no longer available and the main examples in the book were shot with this film, there is still plenty of useful information. The author is definitely an expert on the subject and offers a detailed insight for someone who wants to get started on this kind of photography. She guides your first steps (load your first roll, set your exposure settings, go out to the park and shoot taking notes about the lighting conditions, get it developed and analyse your results) in a very simple, straightforward yet effective way.

A nice mixture of technical and practical information combine to give a grounding in the use of I/R films. I found it gave me a starting point for going out and making my own tests.
