Reviews:

"To say this book is a page-turner would be an understatement. West's characters are intriguing and distinctly drawn. … Cinematic in its scope, West crafts a world that allows a reader's visual imagination run riot, amongst massive explosions, thundering machinery, thousands of foot soldiers whilst introducing very human characters that are humorous, venal, avaricious and, above all, believable."
[Zinger, 5 Stars, Amazon US]

"The multiple points of view were woven together to form an amazing scene of such complexity and originality that it was a delight to read. What was supposed to be a simple recon mission in four legged 'Croc' APCs would spiral into something else entirely."
[Peter R. Stone, 4 Stars, Amazon US]

"It's a well thought-out, well-written, and action-packed science fiction story that could be the beginning of something really epic. I recommend it if this sounds like something you might enjoy."

Product Description:

After a cataclysmic event, that was the only way to end the Iridium Wars, vast areas of Megarothia have been left uninhabitable. Only those who found their way into Lord Hades' protection are presumed to have survived. Under a vast Dome Shield, a new microcosm prospers under the name of the Orange Zone. Protected from the ruined world beyond, The Orange Zone grows in size and strength each year, and in its heart a great city is born.

The population of Cinnamon City has become restless. It has been decades since the Council of Lords were last seen. Some question whether the Lords still live, and many are not content to be governed by Lords that they cannot see. The political situation is delicate and underground organisations spring up with increasing regularity. One such organisation has been gaining power and support from surprising sources. Its numbers grow each day. It calls itself the Kamari, and it raises arms against the Security Forces in the name of the people. Some say, its day has come.

Major Rachel Henson works in the Security Forces, providing safety and protection for the people of Cinnamon City. When Admiral Gail Thompson has her transferred to a desolate southern outpost called Beacon Station, Rachel finds herself working under Commander Nick Chambers, her estranged ex-lover. Beacon Station suffers constant attacks from terrorists, and it's not long before the Beacon Attack Force is scrambled to investigate a possible Kamari HQ in a building called Havers Compound.

When a hacker named Riser Trent arrives, wielding an advanced swarm of autonomous droids, he throws the lives of the Security Forces and the Kamari into complete turmoil. Nick and Rachel must fight for their lives, and Rachel finds herself caught between her duty to the Security Forces and her responsibilities to her father and daughter. She becomes trapped in a web of lies and deceit, struggling to find the right path.

There's something different about Rachel, something hidden deep inside. She can try to hide her past, but the future cannot wait. Only by embracing her true self can she come to understand the nature of the complex world around her.

Everybody takes. Everybody wants. Some must pay the price, in heaven or hell.

The journey starts now…

"Information Cloud tells a gripping story of a futuristic city in turmoil. When a terrorist hacker takes control of the "Information Cloud" for which the book gets its name, he winds up threatening the whole of Cinnamon City and sets in motion a chain of events that leaves little but devastation in his wake."
[Jacob Wood, 4 Stars, Amazon US]

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting Book 3 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
It's a science fiction style of book. Location Cinnamon City, the security forces who represent the incumbent powers of authority of the city are sent to an installation that is supposed to house a Kamari force, the Karmari being the opposition/terrorists, however you like to think of them.

The technology at the disposal of the security forces is advanced, and you think that this battle can only go one way, but the Kamari seem to have clever people who have invented clever technology of their own, and the battle is anything but straight forward.

The story moves between a number of characters, Nick who is in charge of the security forces, the leaders of the Kamari, Gail the head of the security forces whose secrets run very deep indeed, and Riser, a techno hacker supposedly working for a news agency who are illegally covering in real time the unfolding battle at Havers Compound, let's not forget Nick's ex partner Rachel who forms part of his team, but eventually heads off to save her daughter.

Overall the book is very well written, you get some back story from each of the characters, although more would not have been detrimental to the story, and I might have felt a bit more empathy when certain people became toast if that back story had given me more of an insight into them as people.

The pace of the battle and the overall story move relentlessly forward, and it keeps you wanting more, I would come to the end of a chapter and basically need to know what was going to happen next, so from that point of view the writing does grip you, I just think at times maybe it could have slowed down so you got a real idea of some of the technology, but that's possibly just me, I do like to have a good understanding of how the technology works, even if it is completely fabricated.

The ending of the book had me very interested indeed, won't say why, otherwise no point you reading it yourself, but hopefully this character can form a big part of the next installment, and hopefully we get some insight into how he came to be how he is.

A few typo's, but nothing to bother me too much.

Overall thought it was a good read, look forward to grabbing the next one in the series, and there must be a next one surely.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a Battle! 28 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is my first science fiction novel, so I didn't know what to expect, but I enjoyed the book. The writing was very fluid and the detail was amazing. I actually felt like I was in the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a read, waiting for sequel 4 Jun 2012
By Carl
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Disclaimer: I got this on one of the free promotions, and only read it because I used to work with Peter. However, I thought it was pretty good. I would have preferred a bit more back-story about the main factions, and I didn't really get a sense of the geography of the locations (I assumed the crocs were a few hundred yards or maybe a couple of miles from the compound, but the Bull Rangers at Mach 1 would have covered that distance in a few seconds). Only spotted one typo too :-)

If there's a sequel, I'd buy it.
