I have recently bought one of these. A nice idea, when you approach a camera, it gives an audible signal to tell you about it. If you are going too fast, the signal will continue until you slow down to the right speed. When you have passed the camera, it gives you another audible signal. You can configure the approach time and the passed distance using the downloaded PC utility. It simply gives a web address printed on a separate piece of paper that you have to type in directly to obtain the software. I could not find a link for this on their web site.

Also using the PC utility, you can update the database on your unit. You can also report cameras and common hand held locations etc. using the utility. Which brings me to my point in the header. Firstly a camera that has been on a main road near me for several years is not in the database, nor are any of the hand held locations. I have reported the camera and one hand held to them, but as yet, the database has not been updated. I wonder how many other locations are missing? The report form gives speed limits in KM/H, but the unit does seem to correctly identify the speed limits I have found. It also gets the travel direction right, however, there is an option to alert you to all cameras, regardless of direction.

There are currently 2 alternative databases to download, "UK and travel", and "France and travel". These are mutually exclusive, though it does not indicate this. I inquired of their support, they responded reasonably fast with:

-
When you update with the database given you can only update using one of the maps .!!

IF you update using the UK and travelling database( which are shown in red) you will update only these countries indicated.

PLUS POINTS: Well made, tiny, cute, easy to get going, battery operated (so no need to hardwire) - the Inforad software is quickly downloadable and intuitive - no problems at all. You can configure various parameters e.g. how soon before the GATSO/ SPECS do you want the unit to come on, when do you want it to go off after passing the camera etc. Gets a satellite fix quickly - within 2 minutes of switch on. When going into a tunnel, it loses the signal, tells you it has lost it with a single beep and a flashing LED, and regains the signal almost as soon as you exit the tunnel. Sound is fine - beeps are loud, and can be easily heard over the CD player. No problem at all in locating the GATSO - beeps and a red LED. If you are going too fast when entering the GATSO or SPECS camera zone, loud two tone alarm and flashing red LED - this all works fine - I've checked it out.

NEGATIVE POINTS: Battery operated - will run out in 4-5 hours, BUT they supply a cigarette lighter socket to USB adapter - flat battery to fully charged in about 40 mins so not too bad. BUT AND THIS IS A BIG BUT the database has not been updated for some time i.e 8 - 9 months !! I know this because the road I was on used to have 3 GATSO's installed during some major road works - they were removed at least 8 months ago, but the database still obviously lists them, so when I passed these locations, the K1 went mad - two tone alarms, flashing red LED etc, because I was travelling far too fast (for the non existent camera). Almost had a heart attack! This is not the fault of the unit which operated perfectly, but of the database which has not been updated. Inforad have a facility where you can tell them of these anomalies, but what is the point of having an out of date database?

Bought this for when I travel in unfamiliar areas, not wanting to get caught, not that I'm a speed freak but in unknown areas guessing the speed is half the battle.

Does what it says on the tin, it works, plenty of warning, monitors speed during the target areas, small, convenient, easy to charge (works whilst charging!) and does the job.

Database is good already updated a couple of sites for others to benefit, more people buy this and use it the more information which will be captured and benefits all users.

Highly recommend it for people with clean licences wanting to keep them clean or others just wanting to keep their licence!

I received my device on time as promised, and used it on Saturday to drive to Wales, it detected every camera on route and functioned exactly as advertised. It is small well made and the battery seems to last a long time, on a long run you would probably stop on the way and you could just plug it in while not driving.
It bleeps and flashes red when approaching a camera and goes green and bleeps again when passed, it keeps on sounding if you do not slow down and effectively stops you getting caught by the camera. The bleeps are not annoying and if they were I would rather be annoyed than fined £100 and get points.
The device is a third of the cost of a fine it is money well spent.

This simple and cheap product with life time update is discrete and works a treat. One has to upload via a PC but that too is simple. I just leave it plugged in all the time in the car so always there and ready.
