In December 2011, Karen also presented a look at the late Helen Gurley Brown's milestone book Sex & The Single Girl for BBC Radio 4 along with an accompanying article on the BBC News main website and an appearance on BBC Radio 4′s Woman's Hour.

With a BA in Philosophy of Mind and an MBA in Film Finance, Karen is active in development and script reporting with an interest in film business and film news across all media. She reviews films for Monocle, Radio Times, Virgin Media and The Arts Desk. Her written reviews, including early work for Empire, are aggregated at Rotten Tomatoes.

Karen is a member of the exclusive London Film Critics' Circle, Alliance of Women Film Journalists and is a jury associate for the international film critics' association FIPRESCI.

A popular host for Q&A sessions and film-related talks, Karen appeared most recently for the London Screenwriters' Festival, the London Comedy Writers' Festival, the NFT/BFI, First Light's Fever Pitch/London Film Festival, the Barbican Cinema and for the Curzon Cinema.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely presented book 6 Jan 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Liked everything about this book, very colourful, easy to understand (unlike some infographics books, which, ironically have TOO much information). Unfortunately out of date as soon as it goes to print, however still pretty up to date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book. Especially good as a gift. 22 Dec 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I bought this for my boyfriend as one of his Christmas presents and it's great. I spent quite a while looking at it before I wrapped it up for him! I agree totally with everything the previous reviewer said; it's interesting, beautifully illustrated, and full of information both old and new. And that's the whole point of most infographics so this ticks all the boxes. The guessing game pages for each decade are good fun, and the information on the graphics is very varied.
In regards to the reviewer who was angry with the author, I find this odd. Of course the author used other people to compile some of the information for her.

A good present, especially for boys who like movies. I always find them a tough group to buy for so this was a godsend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Weird and Wonderful Film stuff 18 Oct 2013
Format:Hardcover
My daughter is taking a GCSE in film studies and she loved this book. It's beautifully illustrated and while not all of the graphics impart new information (others make smart points) they all look great and reward time spent studying them. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer has against the author, but as far as I can tell she came up with ideas and found data that was then turned into graphics for the numerous illustrators to lay out the words, figures and information as weirdly and beautifully as they have. The different styles of graphic add variety and surprise to the book. The scope of movies covered in terms of age and genre are also great -- my daughter loved the Ryan Gosling graphic and says she's looked up some of the older names online, so it's getting her more interested in different styles of cinema, which can only be good.
