Product Description

Trained from birth in swordplay and combat, a young knight named Siris has journeyed to the Dark Citadel with a single purpose: fight through the army of Titans to face the tyrannical God King in one-on-one combat. This was his father’s sacred mission, and his father’s before him, going back countless generations in an effort to free their people from enslavement. But when Siris somehow succeeds where all those from his bloodline previously have failed, he finds himself cast into a much larger world, filled with warriors and thieves, ancient feuds and shifting alliances, Deathless immortals and would-be kings. His quest for freedom will take him on an epic journey in search of the mythical figure known as the Worker of Secrets – the one being in the world who can unravel the secrets of the Infinity Blade.

Based on the bestselling video game from ChAIR Entertainment and Epic Games, this all-new adventure from acclaimed fantasy author Brandon Sanderson digs deeper into the fantastical world of Infinity Blade, a world of mystery and intrigue where magic and technology are indistinguishable, and even life and death are not what they seem.

Brandon Sanderson has published six solo novels with Tor Books—Elantris, the Mistborn trilogy, Warbreaker, and The Way of Kings—as well as four books in the middle-grade Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians series from Scholastic. He was chosen to complete Robert Jordan’s long-running Wheel of Time series, to which he added 2009's The Gathering Storm and 2010's Towers of Midnight, as well as the final book in the series, A Memory of Light, scheduled for release in 2012. His newest Mistborn novel, The Alloy of Law, will be released in November 2011. Currently living in Utah with his wife and children, Brandon teaches creative writing at Brigham Young University.

Hmm, a difficult one this. I love Sanderson's books but this one just didn't live up to the usual standard. The majority of the tale read as a good intro to a book but in my opinion not a book in itself. And then nearing the end all the Sanderson magic appeared that has hooked me in to probably reading the sequel. I just wish it had happened a lot earlier in the book.

So read it, yes but I'd wait until the next instalment is available or risk feeling slightly disappointed.

I played and enjoyed the iOS game Infinity Blade of which this novella is a sequel/prequel and so I downloaded this out of interest as the price wasn't too high, even if it was just a novella. The game didn't have much of a story, or even a story at all other than an interesting fantasy setting with some science fiction overtones littered through it so I wasn't expecting too much from this but I finished it pleasantly surprised.
If you don't know, the game tells the story of a knight who turns up a castle, makes his way through various enemies until he meets the God King whom he fights to the death and his descendants do the same for, well, infinity. Dialogue is spartan and often little detailed but it proved interesting and it lead myself to wonder what it was all about. This story by Brandon Sanderson, a writer I knew nothing about, fills all the story ideas in and really fleshes out the characters in a way that the game only hinted at. I was gripped constantly by the story and it really does become involving and emotional at times. It doesn't explain too much, most likely leaving the rest up to the sequel to the game that comes out next month but I would recommend this, even if you have never played the iOS game.
I also noticed the writer having written a series of book known as Mistborn. I'll be checking that out after reading this.

Again different 31 Jan 2012

This book is far to short and only gives you the start of the story. Its a great pity as I like Brandon Sanderson and the books that he has written so far. Save your money or you will be in for a major dissapointment, just when you start getting into the book it stops. Be very carefull !!!

Best read of the year
Great read and couldn't put it down. However my screams of anguish when I realised it was only a hundred plus pages could probably be heard all over London. Read more

A good short read
A good short read from Sanderson. His writing is up to its usual high standard and the story follows the end of the first iOS game and start of the second seamlessly. Read more

Not a gamer but loved it
Am a Sanderson fan, have read Mistborn, Elantris and Wheel of time and again he doesn't disappoint but tantalises the appetite. I was left wanting more from this novella. Read more
