4.0 out of 5 stars How B movies should be done! 14 Sep 2009
By I Am Tyler Durden VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
Similar in tone to "Eight Legged Freaks", "Tremors", "Deep Rising" or a comedy version of "The "Mist", this movie hits all the right buttons. No long winded build up, it gets going almost straight away as a group of office workers wake up cocconed to find the town has been infested with various giant bugs. The charaters are well drawn and the knowing and amusing script keeps things entertaining during the quieter moments but it's the bug attacks you want to see and it doesn't disappoint. The bugs are a combination of live action and excellent CGI and whenever they appear the movie shifts up several gears in intensity. There's a few freaky surprises along the way too and a great late appearance from Ray Wise as a gung-ho dad, pretty much replaying his character from TV's "Reaper". All in all, perfect popcorn entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good 28 Dec 2009
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was another impulse buy. As other reviewers have said, it is similar approach to Eight legged freaks but without any real explanation as to why it all happened. Personally, I thought Shaun of the dead was funnier and I would describe Infestation as more light hearted than comedy.

However, for what I expected to be a low budget apocalypse movie it is actually very well made and the effects are impressive (although not gory). It also doesn't suffer from that annoying frame dropping whenever there are fast moving special effects. This in itself is unusual for the lower budget horror movies recorded on DV.

Overall, if you want something to watch late at night that doesn't take itself too seriously then Infestation is proabably a good bet. There are even a few familiar faces.

I was going to give this 3 stars but the quality of the special effects & overall production made me change it to 4.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's the bugs' world. We only live in it. 14 Oct 2009
Format:DVD
There's a chance that this cheeky little gem will be missed in the flood of Giant Whatever movies that clog the arteries of the Sci-Fi Channel, but it's definitely worth a look and probably the most I've enjoyed a straight-to-DVD creature picture since "Frankenfish".

No time at all is wasted in setting up the situation: There are bugs. They've already spun everyone in the town/country/world into cocoons and the story kicks off when one of the cocooned folks wakes up and begins to explore this dangerous new world. Time is taken to establish and build the characters in a way rarely seen since the days when John Sayles was writing "Piranha" and "Alligator". The movie seems to takes its overall tone from those movies too, drawing us deeper and deeper into the situation and always ready with an interesting, cool surprise around the next corner. This is one you'll watch again.

4.0 out of 5 stars A total B Movie - as in B for brilliant! 14 Aug 2012
By The Truth TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
Why do I keep doing it? Why do I keep spending my hard earned money on dodgy films I've never heard of that always turn out to be rubbish?

I'll tell you why! Because every once in a while you stumble across a film like this, that's why!! Infestation is a total B-movie but this time the B stands for brilliant!

It's littered with funny, character driven, humour, the script is quite nice, the bugs are both creepy and crawly and the whole of the film was really good fun.

The creature effects were impressive too with the hybrid bugs (Chad in particular) being very freaky. My only complaint is that the film was over too soon...

The acting was good, I really liked the main character, and if you watch this not expecting the world you should come away pleasantly surprised. This was a movie about giant beetles and flying bugs with added buzz!

3.0 out of 5 stars Blu Ray Review! 19 Oct 2011
By Chinatown Blue TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
I give this film 3 stars for the actual film; it's a fun, funny alien bug invasion romp. The reason I felt compelled to post up a blu-ray review is that I have now had hold of no less than four copies of this blu ray, from four different suppliers, and every single one had the same flaw. Beginning with the menu, and going on through at least the first fifteen minutes of the actual film there is constant pixillation, utterly ruining any chance of enjoying the story. I should also say that between buying the first copy and buying the most recent I left a good six months in hopes the fault would be corrected - but it wasn't. It is nothing to do with my player, which has played every single other blu ray I've had (except Death Note 2, which the makers admitted was flawed and reissued corrected) without the least hitch. So don't waste your money, buy the dvd.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it. 14 Jan 2013
By G Hynes

The other reviews are correct, a great B-movie with all the right ingredients. Tongue in cheek in a few places, some good and some over acting, good FX and models. I actually enjoyed this more than eight legged freaks.

5.0 out of 5 stars BIG BUGS VERY WELL DONE. 23 Sep 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Action kicks off from the get go.The fx are really good.If you liked eight legged freaks you will love this.Could have done with an origin of how and why the bugs got big but it does not spoil the film.Maybe(fingers crossed)they will put that right in the sequel.Dont pass up if you love giant bug movies.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shaun of the Insects! 14 July 2012
By D Brown
Format:DVD
Mrs B keeps throwing weird, wonderful and downright atrocious horror films at me and the latest in the collection is Infestation. More a horror/black comedy, Infestation takes a group of ordinary people and pitches them against a swarm of giant bugs that work their way through a town effortlessly. It sounds silly and awful but my reservations aside is it any good?

The film opens quickly with lazy office worker Cooper (Chris Marquette) having a meeting with his manager Maureen (Deborah Geffner) and being told he is fired for his poor conduct and lack of work. No sooner has Cooper received the news than a strange noise sounds throughout the office, causing everyone to cover their ears. Cooper wakes to find everyone in the office has been cocooned and giant bugs have taken over the town imprisoning everyone they catch in the same manner. Cooper releases his colleagues and joins with a small group to engage in a slice of survival horror.

It's clear early on that Infestation is not a film to take seriously. Cooper is rather amusing, laidback and maladjusted in the office environment as well as being hopeless at romance. Cooper is joined by his manager's daughter, Sara (Brooke Nevin), and an inevitable romance develops beginning with the traditional arguments before mutual affection begins. Cooper and Sara are joined by Albert (Wesley Thompson), Hugo (E. Quincy Sloan) and Cindy (Kinsey Packard) as they leave the office and make their way through town, fighting off any bugs that attack them.

Not only do these bugs cocoon their victims they also sting them as well causing a transformation into hybrids of people and insects. Watching Infestation it felt a bit like Shaun of the Dead but with insects but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, right?
