Inertia is a heart felt solilqy featuring an acrhtypal character named Karen Love who wished to meet her long lost father after 30 years of separation and as the old saying goes "don`t ask what you might wish for you it might actually get it". The story is set in a 1st generation mainly Eastern European neighbourhood called Bloor West village located in the South Western part of Toronto Ontario Canada and the character is trapped at home for even though it is the most beautiful ritzy part of the city and, reminescent of her hometown in Glasgow Scotland. The main character Karen Love had recently lost her job and her passive aggressive boyfriend Paul netheir takes her out or gives her any true emotional support. So as anyone does who has hours to waste in her mind and no social stimulation she fantasizes about meeting her long lost dad Brian O`Reily. As fate would have it he writes her and she then for the 1st time in 30years meets not only her long lost father but her mysterious sister Heather O`Reily who is a child like suductress. As the story proceeds life turns from the mundane to the metaphysical with a climatical ending that leaves you guessing. I truly recommend it!

Truly Engrossing 31 July 2006
By Stacy Hutchinson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Vicki McCarthy's first novel is a gem. Her direct style of writing is refreshing, and every detail contributes fully to the story.

I think most people have had friends, or at least have known people, like Jonna, Devon, Eddie and Milly. And everyone who has lost someone due to a senseless tragedy will experience Milly's torment and heartbreak along with her. You will also reach with her toward the glimmer of happiness and better times to come.

Excellent novel! 25 July 2006
By Laura Lathem - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The author's characters truly pull you into a time that everyone has been through, forcing you to feel thier emotions through their tragedy.

The story keeps you in suspense from page one, adding layer upon layer of mystery and possibility.

Vivid details and scenes allow the characters to come alive and grow as you experience their intense confusion, joy, and heartbreak with them.
Proud as Punch! 3 Aug 2006
By John Hutchinson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
My visit to the town of Bayberry Heights was an awesome experience! Though we only get a small glimpse of our main characters' lives, we feel we know them very well. The very shy Milly, the devil-may-care Devon, the promiscuous Jonna and of course, the mysterious Eddie. The author does a marvelous job of weaving their lives through torment and tragedy, love and laughter. I was spell-bound throughout by the tale everyone should read.
