Well I'm genuinely not sure what to say about this book. I took me a while to get into it and yes, it did catch my attention enough for me to want to finish it BUT it could have been so much more. Gertie just doesnt hold the position of starring role. She's flat and almost inconsequential at times if that makes sense. I feel like the author only drew her as an outline and forgot to shade her in.
Buck really drew me in. You read so much more into him and what his wants and desires are. You know what makes him tick.
I just think it should have been a stonking 5* but it missed the mark.
That said, if there are further books I will read them as the Red Rebels are quite endearing and I really want their stories as individuals and not a group.

This is NOT your Mother's MC story! I LOVED it........ 14 Aug 2014

I have to be honest and state that getting used to the name 'Gertie' wasn't easy. It's just not a sexy name! Once I got into the story (told between present-time and the past which led up to what is now happening); I got used to the name and actually came to understand the woman with such an old fashioned name.
Anyway; Gertie comes from a past which fed-into her deep-seated sense of being unlovable. She masks her feelings with booze, and recreational drugs. She's not smart about it but it's her emotional pain that drives her to be foolish. She's actually a very book-intelligent woman with a career to show for it; although not the career of her choosing but that which was expected of her. She abhors her alcoholic mother and yet she is turning out to be her mother in many ways. She adores her father who is anything but the loving, caring, parent he's fooled her into thinking he is. When she meets Buck of the Red Rebels MC; she's intrigued - as is Buck. Takes a bit of time for them to get together but they do and it's combustion of the hottest kind!

Enter the Demon-Rum (so to speak) and it takes some time (after much denial) for Buck to figure out that his woman has a problem with booze and pills. Little does he know but her problems are so much deeper than he can see, or feel. Gotta hand it to a man who sticks by a woman's side even though she gives him lots of reasons to leave. This is when the real trouble starts.

It's very dark at times. It's gritty. It's difficult to read and comprehend what happens with our poor Gertie. One thing about her however; is her strength. I guess you could say this is Gertie's story and most definitely her triumph over what she does, what's done to her, and how she can stop being destructive to herself, and others. She does overcome. I wanted to rip-up the men who would hurt her in order to get what they feel was their due. I would have liked for Buck to hunt down 'Thor' and give the beast what Buck has waiting for him BUT maybe that is in a book further down the line in this series? In this book we get a lot of Gertie but we don't for a second forget that it is an MC book. It's very much about the RED REBELS MC!

What I finally got from this book is not only a love story but that of two people who managed to find each other and be able to come back together in spite of everything that went down in the interim. I'd also like for them to have their 'epilogue chapter' and I feel a put anxious about not having that last chapter telling of their HEA - BUT - that may be for another book down the road......this reader can only hope. I do like the ending though; it's hopeful. They know they are meant to end of together and Buck has the patience to wait for his lady to be ready. He has no intention of being with anyone but Gertie and Gertie knows Buck is her man. They are wise enough to know that the healing has to be complete first. That being the healing that has to happen after such horrific happenings of the past. I don't want to put in spoilers so read this story and you'll know what I mean.

I also want to know about Jayce and Trinny. Do they make it back together? TANK - big guy needs a story too. Also: Sheriff Downey - she needs some interaction with one of the MC guys! I absolutely loved Brady who became Gertie's GBF (gay best friend). I hope he, his partner Greg and the Tatoo Shop shows up in further books. There are so many wonderful characters in this story.....and some real sleezy bad guys who I hope get what they deserve down the road in this MC series.

This is a story I'll keep and reread for years to come. It made me think. It made me cringe. It made me laugh and shed tears. It takes a talented writer to write any story worth reading but it takes an exceptional writer to create a story that makes the reader 'feel' emotions for the story-line and its characters. C.D. Breadner is one such writer and this story is quite an achievement.

Recommended highly but be warned that this is not a fluffy romance but a gritty story leading to a love that won't die but in fact blooms from the depths of pain and darkness. Thank you.

Note: check out C.D. Breadner's story on fanfiction-dot-net - called 'FINAL WISDOM' - another MC story that I dearly love. Over a hundred chapters of wonderful storytelling and a story that will tear the reader's heart apart and then put it back together. Her writer name on fanfiction is: Fuzzy Peaches1 - FINAL WISDOM is another story I won't forget. On fanfiction I review as 'Pertie' (who has well over 6k reviews since 1995).

My rating: 4.5

Indulge carries the reader on the journey Gertie and Buck travel as their relationship and love progresses. Gertie is middle 30’s, upper class, divorced, has an alcoholic mother, a daddy’s girl but daddy is a criminal on the run from illegal hedge fund scams. Her family could be the poster for the term “dysfunctional.” Buck is your typical bad ass Sargent at Arms for the Rebels MC. But he has a softer side to him and is confident in himself. The story centers around Gertie’s struggles and Buck’s support of her. This romance is not about fluff and focuses on some dark, gritty issues such as alcoholism, drug abuse, self-image issues and trust. Gertie is in the wrong place at the wrong time and draws Buck’s attention. He is attracted to her quirky, eccentric personality and of course her beauty. As he gets to know her better he sees her life is basically screwed up and she has a lot of issues. He tries to stay away but keeps coming back to her. The love develops over time and at times Buck wants to just walk away but he keeps hanging. There’s drama, suspense and violence in the book. Once I started reading the book I couldn’t stop even though at times I was so mad with Gertie I could have slapped her. Other times my heart broke for her. In the end, she finally ends up in rehab and has become independent. Buck expresses his love for her and admits she is far more important to him than the club.
The book does not end in a cliff hanger. The H/h have resolved their differences, know they love each other but the h wants a little more time before they move back in together. She's been through rehab and is getting her life in order. So IMO it was an acceptable conclusion to the book and I know that we will see more of the H/h in the next books. The ending does do a pretty good set up for more books in the series and this book is definitely not a cliff hanger. But you have to read the whole book to understand the ending and accept it. You have to fight the battles with them through the book for this one.
I loved all of the secondary characters in the book and look forward to the next one in the series. I’m thinking that I will also get to see more of Buck and Gertie then. This book touched my heart and my emotions to the core. I love this author’s writing style and her ability to drag me into the characters’ lives and wring so many emotions from me.

This was a gritty book. Gertie who had issues was interesting. I felt bad for her, got mad at her and in the end I was sad for her. She seemed stuck over family issues and doing the right thing by Buck. I really enjoyed this book and hope to read more about the Red Rebels MC. I'd recommend this book.

Not Your Average HEA 20 Aug 2014

I was given an ARC, under the working title of "Gertie". While "Indulge" is a very fitting name for this book in many ways, it truly is a story about Gertie.

Having never read an MC novel, not even really knowing that it was a defined genre, I began what I thought would be an easy beach read while on holidays. I soon discovered this novel is so much more complex and involved than my expectations. It taxed my emotions, and brought me to tears. At one point, I had to stop for three stiff drinks before continuing. I turned its plot points over in my head as I slept. This one really got under my skin.

While the plot is solid, and plausible, I enjoyed that it wasn't so much about the inner workings of the MC, or Buck, the MC hero, if you will. This story is all about Gertie. And what I REALLY liked was that our main character doesn't get "saved". Sometimes, complete obliteration is what it takes to begin rebuilding. And unfortunately for Gertie, that's the path this author has chosen for her.

This novel is beautifully written. It's descriptive imagery enabled me to lose myself into places and events I will never encounter in my lifetime. The backstories of the characters are well presented, and the parallel stories (the BC and AD of Gertie's obliteration, if you will) was maybe a stroke of genius. I'm usually not a fan of time-jumps in books, but in this novel it really works, and I can only imagine the level of difficulty it took to get everything to come together in the end - which is does, perfectly.

Sex (HOT Sex), drugs, alcohol, addiction, torture, rape... the topics in this book are not for the faint of heart; it's no Harlequin Romance. But it's real, it's intriguing, and it's a walk on the wrong side of the tracks for a hockey mom like me. It was not an easy beach read, but for that I am glad. It was so much more meaningful than that.

I sincerely hope this turns into a long-running series.
