Review

INDIGO'S STAR: 'as funny and compelling as her Whitbread-winning SAFFY'S ANGEL ... The unpatronising, open, thought-provoking ending leaves us eager for more. Definitely a book to curl up with and enjoy in one single sitting.' (Lesley Agnew, The Bookseller 20030606)

INDIGO'S STAR: 'Another winning title from the inimitable Hilary McKay.' (Publishing News 20030606)

INDIGO'S STAR: 'a welcome new instalment in the lives of the unforgettable Casson family, ... the characters of every Casson child go on developing. This is a rich vein; let's hope Hilary McKay will soon give Permanent Rose a book of her own.' (The Independent Magazine, July 2003 20030606)

Praise for SAFFY'S ANGEL:

'Quirky and curious ... unforgettable. The central characters are strong, lovable - and unique.' (Nic Knight, The Bookseller 20030606)

'A funny, exuberant story.' (Carousel 20030606)

'Hilary McKay's strength lies in her understanding of young people and her ability to evoke them very simply.' (The Guardian )

'A real feel-good novel, McKay treats us once again to one of her brilliantly characterised families. This is a really lovely book.' (The Bookseller )

'Brilliant, funny, clever and kind.' (Amazon.co.uk )

'Hilary McKay excels in conveying the anarchic bedlawm of family life, and she has excelled herself in her marvellous novel, Saffy's Angel which deserves to be placed alongside such classics as Little Women and The Railway Children.' (TES Primary )

'Finding its place in a rather neglected area of children's fiction, Hilary McKay pitches the tone just right with a tale that is both funning and touching.' (The Guardian )

Nic Knight, The Bookseller

Praise for SAFFY'S ANGEL:

'Quirky and curious ... unforgettable. The central characters are strong, lovable - and unique.'

My Favorite Book 6 April 2010
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
I am eleven (and not very keen on reading)I have read this book seven times and it is great! To me it is one of Hilary McKays best (pobably my favorite book ever). I think in her books you grow to love the characters. Personally my favorite is Rose but I love them all! You just can't stop reading it. I think it is worth buying.

We love the Cassons! 2 April 2009
Format:Paperback
My 9 year old daughter got 'Saffys Angel' from the school library and we loved it so much we've read the rest of the series. These books are about the ups and downs of the Casson family. This book is about Indigo, the only boy in the family. Its about friends and bullying mainly but it's not at all heavy. The Cassons have problems but they are dealt with. Our favourite character is Rose. By the end of any of the books the reader (and her mother) are left smiling and wanting more.
