Indigo Swing 18 Jun 2004
Format:Audio CD
I have owned this album for a while and its very good. The band play swing but with a touch of blues and a touch of rock and roll. The lead vocalist is brilliant with miles of talent. He is able to sing the fast punchy rock and roll numbers and the soft slow 2.30 in the morning blues numbers. The sax player just lights the album up, if you like saxophones then this album will probably get you! The pianist is especially good too, varying from soft and smoochy to flat out rock and roll. The covers on this album are well done, My baby cares for me is not too slow but covered well by the band and it suits their style, Swing lover is great to dance to and sung hauntingly well straight from the heart, Choo Choo ch,boogie is the Louis Jordan hit that is given a new lease of life on this album, and finally Rollin with roland is fast rock and roll that will get you playing the album all over again! The bands other albums, red light and all aboard contain their own gems but this album is a truly great way to start your affair with Indigo Swing. The albumn always transports me straight into American night life as you might imagine it at 2.00 am in a smoky club that is not too posh....! I have yet to find anyone who dislikes Indigo Swing if they are half alive to Swing music where there is that glorious conjunction of Jazz, Blues, and Rock and Roll. This album is the brilliant, enjoy !

WOW! 26 Nov 1999

Oh, my God. Let me say that again... Oh, my God. Got this Cd on a whim, tossed it in the stereo and was IMMEDIATELY mesmerized. Cool, smooth swing with a jazzy undertone that really makes you stop and listen. Sweet and sexy, type of music you have to turn down the lights and sit on the couch with a brandy snifter in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Johnny Boyd? one of the most talented voices that I have heard in a long time. Real velvet that one... If you like swing, jazz, or just big band sound... GET this CD! A definate must to have on your rack.

Just think of the color Indigo and you have an idea of this album. Cool, smooth, deep, and beautiful! Just straight good swing and jazz without all the clutter you find in most neo-swing albums. It's a must buy for any music lover!

From 3 to 5 1 July 2002

A year ago I wrote a review of this album saying, "Pick it up third." Time has passed, and I have a slightly different outlook on it.

Indigo Swing was my favorite of the swing comeback era. Outstanding (reserved, confident and colorful) vocals from Johnny Boyd, and a killer-smooth swinging rhythm from the rest of the band. Pianist William Beatty rolls out some sock-offing solos (check "Flip Flop and Fly" - the right hand flies while the left keeps rocking his standby G bass line!). The brass section is good, but as a piano player, I'm biased. "Reet, Petite & Gone" and "My Baby Just Cares for Me" are stand-outs also.

This album delivers as far as good, solid swing songs. My only complaint is that it feels more like a collection of stray Indigo Swing tunes than a cohesive album. If you're new to IS, get hooked on "All Aboard," move on to "Red Light!", and then top it off with this.
