Book Description

13 Mar 2014
After years of heavy addiction, Chris Grosso found himself literally on his knees, utterly lost and broken. He needed a new way to approach life, something that went beyond conventional religious or spiritual doctrine-free of bullshit. Drawing on his punk rock roots and question-everything mindset, Grosso offers a collection of stories and musings about his meandering journey of self-inquiry, recovery, and acceptance. He rejects all the hypocrisies and judgments of religion to show that spirituality is not something that only happens on meditation cushions or yoga mats, in sanghas, churches, mosques, temples, or synagogues. It's not always peaceful and quiet. It can be as loud as a rock concert or as alternative as Grosso himself. And it's up to you to find and follow your own path. Brutally honest, bitingly humorous, and radically unconventional, Grosso's collection of vignettes shows what it means to live an authentic, open, and mindful life. Indie Spiritualist empowers you to accept yourself as you are, in all your humanity and imperfect perfection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loving-Kindness 24 Mar 2014
By LindsayBricks - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The thing that I find most fundamental about this book is that it guides you (no matter what faith you are) to love yourself more. I had a failed suicide attempt in 2010 that left me in a coma for two weeks on ventilators, the whole nine. My left side still isn't up to par. Back to Chris' book. Loving-Kindness. I am very loving and very kind to almost everyone. I know that we share the same inner light, the same struggles with ourselves and who we are vs. who we want to be. I'm compassionate toward everyone - except one person. Myself. I would go out struggling with my nerve damage, plaster a smile on my face, tell everyone I felt better and that I was doing great, only to come home to implode and cry myself to sleep because I was lying. How could I love everyone else except myself? Chris' book really helped me to reach the level of "seeing" transparently. We're beings of light. I AM A BEING OF LIGHT. I deserve just as much love and compassion from myself, to myself, as anyone else does from me that I come into contact with. My advice to you readers is: Get this book. Read it. Read it again. Take notes. And love the s*** out of yourself. Chris Grosso is brilliant, and I'm super stoked to read more from him!

Note: This book also includes meditations, rosary/bead work instructions, and also creative outlet ideas. In other words, just buy the book! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars great read 4 Mar 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Written in a voice this generation understands, respects and loves. I think its a well crafted fusion of the meaning of existence and some conventional precepts in a way I could totally relate to. I had already chosen to believe in a higher power of my own understanding, this was just a great breakdown of that. Cheers friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chris Grosso is the voice of "the rest of us" 23 Mar 2014
By Didi Rechele - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I loved the Indie Spiritualist and just as the title implies this truly is undoubtably, a NO BULLSH*T exploration of spirituality and dukkha/life/suffering. I have read literally hundreds of spiritual/dharma/religious books and most of them leave me with a feeling something like Well, that is great but not really practical for "me" - I'm here to tell y'all, this book is for the rest of us, the ones that have been searching for our own voice, our own feelings, perceptions and experiences in a language that speaks to us. I may be a little older than the "Indie" generation but I connect deeply with Chris' hard-earned wisdom and his raw honesty and humility. Do yourself a favor - even if you have 100 books in your "to-read" pile and you've promised yourself or your significant other not to bring another book into the house until you finish what you have on your plate, shove some of that stuff over and make room for The Indie Spiritualist - you will be pleasantly pleased with what you find inside the pages and inside Chris' heart and mind and ultimately within your own. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking, honest, down to earth 4 Mar 2014
By Star Gazer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The vignettes offer insight into the human condition, the raw and painful experiences that are candidly described as catalysts for a journey of hope and inspiration. Chris is honest, blunt at times. The book is easy to read, hard to put down, and it touches on many different spiritual practices. The writer stresses the importance of finding what works best for each individual and describes, in detail, his journey to finding what works for him. I bought the book for my daughter who is in college, I think she'll love it! Chris speaks in a voice that people of all ages can hear.
