Product Description

With a surge in popularity recently and an increase in great downloadable games, there has never been a better time to learn about independent "indie" games. 250 Indie Games You Must Play is a guide to the exciting and expanding world of indie gaming. Whether you are a veteran of the indie game scene or have never played an indie game before, this book helps you experience the best in indie gaming and further your understanding of why indie games are so important in the entertainment industry.

The wide range of games highlighted in the text encompasses concepts and ideas that will change your perspective of what video games can be. The book covers puzzlers, platformers, beat ‘em ups, shoot ‘em ups, role-playing, and strategy.

Apart from being fun, indie games can be experimental, emotional, nostalgic, and occasionally just plain bizarre. Some make you sit back in awe, while others have you thinking, "Why have I never played a game like this before?" Better still, the majority of these games are completely free to play and even the commercial releases are incredibly cheap. Once you start playing indie games, you may not be able to look at your big-budget blockbusters the same way ever again.

If you're a love of the indie gaming scene this is a must buy for three reasons. First, while I try to keep up on all the great indie games out there this book introduced me to many great games that I had never heard of. Second, this book is a great way to get your friends and family introduced to indie games. The colorful images and easy format beacon people to pick it up and leaf through it. Then before long they are asking about a game, and would like to play it. Third, indie gaming is such a web based phenomenon its rare and wonderful when you can hold a piece of it in your hands. This book lets you hold 250 colorful little pieces at once!

A top reference 13 May 2011
Format:Paperback
There's some amazing indie games out there many of them free but it's hard to know how to distinguish the signal from noise. This is a really good reference to help you do that. It doesn't just cover the same indie darlings you'll see in many online "best of" lists. It covers a whole range of games from some really talented developers.

If you like playing games and you want to find some great stuff you've probably not stumbled across yourself this is the book for you.

a super book! 19 May 2011

Format:Paperback
After my initial disappointment had faded (i bought the book thinking it would have a picture of Arcade Fire playing hopscotch, my current masturbatory fantasy), i discovered a great book which serves as a fantastic reference to some of the best indie games you can play.

Thoroughly recommended!
